Ok, Here goes. I am very green at this, So I hope I can get a couple of my plants to produce something.

I Started my seeds in these Peat cups to germinate, got four out of 8 to germ in 3-6 days so far.

I only have two of these cheap ass Sylvania Spot-Gro 120 watt lights.. They do not say what there light out put is, or what ever you all call it. I will try and get a couple of the cfl's in two days. These lights seem to put out a lot of light, but the put out to much heat for the amount of light I get,, at least in my opinion. Have any opf you ever used this type of light? I can not get them closer then about 2.5' with out cooking my plants.

Once my plants broke ground to 1/4" I planted them into 3 gallon containers. Two more will be planted tomorrow. total of 4 so far. I am wondering if planting in the big container first off was bad. I see that most people start in a smaller container, then replant.

My plants have been in the soil for 2 and 3 days in these photos. going to call it 3 for my journal. They are 2 3/4" inches tall at this point.

My lights are on 24/7 right now, and in about 4-5 more days I will take them down to 18 hours on, 6 hours off. I have also slowed down my watering after reading some of the fine thread in this site.

Will put one more post so I can put 3 more photos.

All suggestions are greatly wanted and needed.

Thanks in advance for any help..:joint: :joint:

One more question of many to come. I bought soil that says it have nutrients in it for 3 months of growing. I am now worried that i Might at sometime burn my plants because of over feeding them. Should I just wait until the plant speaks to me...LOL and tells me it need food? I have grown other typoes of plants before, So I can of have a rough idea of what not to do in 1 out of 100 or so cases with these plants.

for future reference . . with those pucks/peat pots soak them in a little bit of hydrogene peroxide like a few drops to prevent root rot :)

Word of advice. Put your hand up to your lights and find where the heat from them starts to cause discomfort. Then place your lights a little higher than that distance from the tops of your sprouts. They are stretching horribly.

Also get a fan on them. If you dont get the stems some exercise they WILL fall over.

I heard not to get my plants over 90 degrees. I have a temp gauge that shows me two different places. So I put on where the plant is in the direct light.. the room can be 75 degrees out of the light, and be 105 in the light. So I raised them.. I will lower them and see what happens. I also thought they were stretching to fast. I hate these Lights, to much heat for two little light.

I also never heard of the Proxiod trick.. thanks also.. will give that a try next time.:peace: :peace:

Ok, I just lowered my lights.. it is 77 degrees ambient air temp, and 110 in the direct light at the plants.. You sure it would not be better for me to wait 2 days until I gewt my CFL lights? I do not want to kill the little guys. I am really wanting to keep them at about 75-80, is my idea.

Ok. I searched through my storage and found one small fan. The temp dropped from 110 to 88 degree. Still need lights a little closer though. Instead of 24" they are about 16" now.

How much does a cfl bulb cost about? I have not even seen any of them around in the stores? Are they marked or sold for growing or what? is there a certain type I should Buy?

for info on cfl, read this post by Mogie. You plants do look like they are stretching pretty bad. I would get the cfls as soon as possible. when you do get the new lights, i would suggest transplanting again, this time in a smaller container (about 1 gallon or less) and plant it so that the soil is about 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch from the first sprout. this will help to build a strong stem along with the fan. for cfls to work, you will need about 4-5 (cool light cfl) lights per plant. MarjoR_TokE has an excellent grow journal using cfl, I would suggest reading it. cfl should be about $8 - $10 per light. i use a soil less grow mix by jiffy-mix (you can get some at your local wal-mart). it has no nutrients in it, which means i don't have to worry about the the soil burning my roots. i do, though, have to water more often, about ever 2-3 days. do you know what strain you are growing, and do you plan on flowering these, or getting a mother to produce clones?

Can anyone tell me why if I started these in full sized 3 gallon pots, that I should replant them in smaller 1 gallon pots? I thought it shocked the plants sometimes to replant them. So I planted them in the larger pots right from the start. I figured most people started in the smaller pots to save room, figuring some would die.

go get a shop light for 8-10 bucks at wal mart. You can start them in the final size pot if you want I usually do.I take my rooting clones or plant seed in the bucket I plant to have them in at finish. The more transplants the more stress.More chance or hermies or root damage.Get the shop light floros and then keep them almost touching the tops of the little plants.Get thos temps down for gods sake. The temp in direct light on the plant should below 80 78 is great.Dont forget to mist lightly daily but dont over do it as fungus can start or you can stunt or kill if you overwater.

if you start your plants in a big pot, then your roots will go straight to the bottom, ball up and not grow out. with smaller pots, it helps them to grow out and down. that's why most pots are wider at the top than at the bottom, this also promotes roots to grow out.

The temp sensor, I was useing for the plant itself I placed on the soil next to plant which picked up the extra heat from the dark color of the soil. I raised it just off the soil and WALLA my temp dropped to under 77.8 degrees, so I lowered the lights to where now My heat is Max of 87 degrees. I am going to go try and find cfls tomorrow and maybe a couple of tube lights.

Has anyone else grown a couple plants in a condo or apartment? I have been thinking of moving, but I hate moving so very much. Maybe this will finally push me into finding a house or something. I know that a Charcoal filter might work, but for my first grow I am trying not to go over board on cost. My next grow I will buy my seeds and do it full out.

Thanks everyone for all your great help. I am pretty sure that if I had not found this site I would at best, have grown some crappy headache weed. :spew:

:hump: Ok, I bought a T-5 48", 54 watt fluorescent grow light, and two 26 watt CFLs today. The 26 watt CFLs were the highiest watts I could find. The Cfls are are soft white light. The T-5 light is supposed to be 5K lumies, and each of the CFLs are 1700. I also bought the new fan you will see in my new photos. I threw this all together tonight after work. On Saturday I will buy a few more lights and set up my room better when I have more time. I was thinking I would go cheap for me first grow, I think I am still going cheap compared to most of you guys, but wow!! I was not thinking I would spend this much, and as I have it figured, I have not even spent half of what I will before it all ends. Next grow I am buying my seeds from nirvania.

My Temp dropped to 72 degrees, plants and swinging lightly in the breeze. I will be planting two more tomorrow, these will be in smaller pots also.

Also My humidity is 30%, and my PH of water I use is about 6.8. this all sound about right?

Hope this set up will get better results.

I Think I would have thrown in the towel if it was not for this site and all your guys help...

Humidity is 32% I think I will try and get my ph a little lower in my water. I bought a quart of General Hydroponics ph down, and one of PH Up.
