Hi all,
I have a sweet tooth auto that is 20 days old, i have been lst'ing for a few days and all was great, but today i mis-judged how much she can take and SNAP!!!! The main cola snapped taking a few nodes with it, there is a tiny thread still attatched, i possitioned the main cola back into its original place and tied with wire so it doesnt move, will my sweet tooth be able to repair itself? Pistils are just starting to show all over her so she is still very young, i have about 6 little branches below the snap, if the main cola doesnt make it could i use the branches that are left and lst them? To make more main colas, any help will be great....

Thanks for the reply spek, i have the main stem back in its original place pushed with hardly any gap, i have tied with wire so it doesnt move, but if i try and tape it i will probibly cause more damage, will she be ok like this? It would be the same effect as tape, just using wire instead

My research on autos has pointed to them not handling major stress very well compared to photos. The fact that they have a short and predetermined veg period means that they don't have a lot of time to recover. Basically all the energy that the plant is going to put into trying to repair itself would otherwise be go into growth and flowering.. I would wait for advise from somebody more knowledgeable than me, but I think at best you are going to see a definite drop in size and yield.

sorry sunni, just desperate...Will the tape method still work with a auto? And is the tape just to put the stem back in place or stop infections?

Tape works well

I don't know, but I always found the tape helps keep in moisture. I've broken plants in half intentionally to test out breakage, and have never had one die.

Right now I have a 3' Blueberry plant I broke exactly like what you say you've done early in flower, and now it's a week from harvest and there aren't any negative side effects.

I have some 1/4 inch wide green tape that is stretchy, don't really know it's real purpose but it works great for this issue. I think it came from a craft store!

I suffer from tremors and break stems all of the time. I just tape them up and life goes on. I have had to break a stem because the plant was too tall for my room, still grew a nice fat cola!!!

It's called super-cropping, not recommended to do a full break but I've dropped things like fans on my plants and just taped them (not too tight), give them a week or so and you'll be fine, probably yield more in the end, no worries... This one was just done on purpose, it was growing too tall and no side shoots, so I fixed it, that's the main stem...

Thanks for the replys all, i checked a while a go, and the top half was completly drooped, all fan leafs, all nodes. i gently pulled back the stem to see the break and it was completely bone dry, i guess she decided not to use the main stem anymore, but as they say every cloud has a silver lineing, i still have a plant, and i still have 6 small branches where i lst'd, so im going to lst every branch and see what happens in the end, even if i got a spliff i will be happy, and its a lesson i needed to learn, wether it be today or years to come, im getting new seeds tomorrow, so even worst way i am only 21 days behind schedual, just a shame im not going to harvest on christmas day anymore :-( . Thanks for all the replys. Furious

So today i had a peek in, and to my amazment the side branches which i lst'd last night had turned, pointed to light and grown about a inch each branch, i was expecting some serious stunting, ive decided some new seeds, big bang auto, mainly because it can handle the low temps i am having atm, but going to keep the broken sweet tooth as a experiment.

Can i clone a auto?
Have never done autos but from reading I hear it's not a practical thing, perhaps someone with auto experience can chime in on this.

These plants are awesome at handling training. I've been tracking different training methods for a while and have come to the conclusion that they like and respond well to ANY sort of training. The process itself (training) whether low-medium-high stress generates enough growth and eventually yield to cover off any minor delays in training. You have to have a little veg time though, if you tend to flip early the results may not be as good. I typically veg for 6-8 weeks depending on space availability and in that timeframe I can FIM at least a couple of times, I LST from very young, like 3 nodes and up and now super-crop most strains. Bend/twist/tuck/cut away, they'll reward you for it in the end.

I have been looking at photo period plants for a while, because in the end the time frame isnt much appart, and the yeild is alot more, could i go from seed to harvest with a non-adjustable hps, so just a hps with 400w magnetic ballast, like the autos, or must it be blue light? I am starting to regret autos, i know quite a lot about them but nothing about photoperiod plants.

I'm not an hps guy but if you're doing it with autos, photos won't change much or behave that much differently other than of course your light schedule will need to be adjusted. Different technology with more blues would likely improve/speed up your veg period but not totally necessary, I've certainly seen references in here to people using hps right through the cycles. Personally I use Chinese LED's for veg (would not use or recommend cheap/Chinese LED's for flowering at all) as I like the way LED's veg and form plants, e.g. tighter nodes, fast growth, then flower with CMH. Just a personal preference after a lot of testing. The plants seem to like the switch in spectrum from one lighting type to another and explode when they reach the flower room/CMH.

thanks for all the help. Im going to grow a batch of big bang auto, do a whole load of research, then after harvest get some northern lights as my first photoperiod. Thanks again, furious

Hey no problem, sounds like a good choice, haven't grown out NL but i know a couple of guys that do and it's a solid strain, good luck.
