First indoor grow setup

I guess the one thing i can think of is shine a light in your ducting and see if it comes through if not your good

As in make sure its light proof

I do have light coming through my light ducting on the intake side even with a 90 in it. And how do I stop light from getting in and out of my vents

You will want to use duct tape to seal up as many of those light leaks as possible. I used a mix of Happy Frog, Ocean Forest and Perlite 1/3 of each and have seen some good results so far. You should look into Mega Crop, that is all I feed mine right now and they seem to love it.

Do you use that mix from clone to flower?

I used a carbon filter sheet that is a replacement for an air purifier...$15 at Menards and it was more than large enough to cover all of my vents.

As for the Mega Crop I am still in Veg but have been using it since my plants popped the 3rd node. They have a calculator that tells you how much to add to your water. Also...look into molasses :)

The soil mix I got after maybe 2 weeks into the grow.

Great. Thank you

If not look up passive light proof vents (although it might be hard to mount in a tent it will give you an idea.)

I posted a design for someone not long ago

Basically if you wrap some ducting in panda

And make it have 3 180 degree bends in them

It wont let the light bounce through :) and will not slow the air much

So I have a couple more questions for you guys. I am getting my clones next Sunday, 8 of them. I plan on running a 4x8 scrog. I am going to transplant the clones when they are ready into 5 gallon smart pots. My question is are 8 plants enough for a 4x8 scrog and are 5 gallon pots big enough, or should I go with 7 gallon pots.

8 plants is definitely enough for a 4x8 scrog. I've seen a 4x4 packed full with 1 plant in a scrog. That's why people with heavy restrictions on plant counts often use the technique. That being said, a higher plant count will fill the screen faster and require less training so it should theoretically shorten your veg time by a good bit.

So just a update to my setup. I was suppose to get my clones this past Sunday but had to hold off. My lights out temps where getting way to low. My low temp was anywhere from 49-52 on my three day run, and yes I was running my lights at night. Gets cold up here in the northeast, guess I didn't realize how cold my basement got. So I have decided to run my first grow with autoflowers instead of heating my basement, that way the lights keep the tent warm. During lights on my tent is stays at a consistent 75 degrees. So i ordered my seeds from growers choice out of cali. I got 5 critical purple auto seeds, 5 ak autos and 5 tangerine dream autos. Has anyone bought from growers choice or grown these strains? If so let me know what your experience was with growers choice strains. Thanks for the help guys.

So my seeds from growers choice arrived 5 days after I ordered them. I am germinating them now. I do have a question though. I need to have my lights set at 1000watts in order to keep the tents temp at a good range. Is this going to be to much light for seedlings? How far away from the pots should my lights be? Right now I have them set about 2 feet away and am maintaining 73 degrees at the soil.

A 1000hps is crazy for a seedling
I would have it as far away as I could , then very slowly bring it down as i notice stretch.
Do u have a hsp/mh ballasts? MH will do better in veg.
If you have the money , I’d buy a 315cmh for veg. Or a cfl to get them going .
I’d look at installing a little electric heater to maintain the heat, if your losing to much at night but are not having trouble maintaining temp during the day, cover the tent with heavy blankets. This will insulate it.

I have used smart pots for a long time.
I’m done with them! The hard air pruning pots are more user friendly.
I have 4 of the smart pots to clean , then they are someone else’s problem.

I run 4 10gallon pots per 4x4 with scrog
If I didn’t have a plant count I’d have a lot more in there n cut way back on veg .

1, 4, 8, 64 plants in that space will all work
The veg times will differ greatly.

Cold$moke design of the light blocking intake will work , I’ve done the same but I used a series of 90s and made a coil.

Good for you on running and checking conditions before starting, instead of fucking stuff up and looking for help to fix.
Your already ahead of most,

Hey bighorn thanks for the reply. I have my lights set to 500watts with a mh bulb in them right now. Today I picked up a thermostat controller for the fan that cools the lights. With the lights at 500watts and the fan turning on and off when temp dictates I am able to maintain 72-75 degrees. Will 500 watts be ok for the seedlings. I hope so because I started germinating 9 seeds yesterday and all of them have popped.
