First Hydro, Homemade Setup Help

this will be my first time growing, i'm only going to try 1, possibly 2 plants on a very small scale, talbletop stylee. here's the DI setup, i thought that all the readymade hydro systems were hugely overpriced, so i'm gunna make my own, maybe include scrOG aswell.

• 1 (or 2 depending on number of plants) x compact Fluorescent 42 Watt Spiral, 150 Watt Equivalent, 5100K Full Spectrum lights, for the vegging and flowering

• rockwool for the seedlings, then transfer into clay pebbles in plastic pots.

• Submersible Fountain Pump 75gph ish

• General Hydroponics pH Control Kit, ph up + down and ph indicator

• digital thermometer and hygrometer

• some bug killer for good measure

• nutes: flora bloom and flora micro

• a 3.4 gallon blacked out resevoir, should it be bigger for just one plant?

here's a bad picture of what it's roughly gonna look like. the red area is obviously insulated from light and has a reflective interior, the rez will be blacked out too. any alterations you guys think appropriate, please tell me.



my questions are:

1. should i invest in a ppm reader? i really don't have the money as i'm only young. i could buy one but i'd like to avoid it by just flushing my rez every 2 weeks or so.
   
2. what light cycle should i follow. 24/24 or 18/24 for vegging, and should the flowering light cycle be 12/24?
   
3. how often should i let the drip go, or is it constant? i've heard methods with three times a day, where you let the water flush though fully then drain. more ebb and flow-esque. info on both would be cool ( ebb and flow & drip irrigation)
   
4. what seeds can you guys reccommend? i want something feminized with a relatively high yeild, and i guess a more of an indica hybrid rather than more sativa, but it doesn't really matter. if you know something that grows especially well with scrOG, please let me know.
   
5. germination. i can't get clones off of anyone, so what do you guys view to be the best germination method.
   
6. what distance should my light be from my scrOG, and should i be moving the light up and down depending on conditions, if so, what are they?
