First Hempy Grow from Seeds

This is my second attempt at growing. My first attempt was in soil, and all three of my plants ended up as dudes. Sucks having a sausage party.

So, now I am trying the Hempy Method. Thanks to Hempy for thinking it up, thanks to AZGrow for starting the Hempy Collective.

Today is day one. I took 10 Medijuana seeds and am germinating. I am soaking them in distilled water, in a shot glass, in a dark room with temps at 78 degrees.

Tomorrow, I will start the paper towel method to get the tap root started, then plan on planting into straight perlite in 16oz foam cups.

Room - 3x3x7 Grow Closet with reflective walls

Lights - 3 65W CFL for seedlings, 1 400W MH for Veg, 1 400W HPS for Flowering.

Exhaust is a canfan.

Wish me luck. Any of you experts have any ideas, or if I am already on the wrong track please let me know.

Pics will be posted very tomorrow when I place them in papertowels.

-Thanks.

im currently on my first grow and at first getting the seeds to germ was a bitch if your using the rock whool medium dont over water the cubes you want the plant to stress its way out of the rock whool so it can start heading do your resivor i got mine 2inch from the bottom of my bucket but i havent seen any come out but i actually ended up germing 5 nl seeds over wateres two my friend killed two i had one in a lil cup with perlite for couple of days so i decided ti out it in rock whool but it didnt split so i kinda broke the rock whool in half and set it in their then about 4 weeks later i took it out haha plant seem to work great got a clone off it and killed two by pretty much doing the same thing learned from the mistake

I am thinking of not using rock wool. I have heard lots of bad things about it, like ph fluctuations and too much water causing root rot. I was thinking that once the tap root comes out, straight into perlite it will go.

I am moving away from soil because there are too many unknowns. I figure with a simple Hempy hydro, I can better control the nutrients, ph, etc...

Thanks for the post. Sorry bout the losses, hope things are going better.

All ten seeds sank to the bottom, and so, I transferred them to a plate with one moistened paper towel below and three above. I covered the plate with a bowl, a home-made humidity dome, I guess.

Forgot my camera, so no pics yet. But, so far, nothing glamorous worth posting. Will try to post pics tomorrow.

Sounds good just follow AZgrows tips and you should be a very happy hempy grower. I know reading all 180+ pages is a little rough ;-) . Root rot forms using your method as well so make sure you don't have them too wet in the paper towels. Hold the paper towels up and let water drip from one of the corners until it basically stops, then you know you got the right amount of water. Rockwools should be soaked and then squeezed a little to juice the excess water, place them in a semi sealed container then you just sit back and wait for the magic. If your not using Rockwool at least add 4/1 vermiculite to help absorb/distribute water.

Thanks for the post. I am growing this batch for my wife who is a medical patient. She needs it desperately, and we were so let down when all the last batch were all males. I squeezed the paper towerls to remove the excess water. So, there moist, but not too wet. I was planning on planting the newly germinated seeds straight into a 3 part perlite, 1 part vermiculite mix. Is that wise? Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I appreciate any help I can get.

Yes, I am following AZ's grow tips. The Hempy Collective rocks. That's how I discovered the method. Anyways, thanks again for checking out my grow. Please stop by again, I will have pictures up. I always apreciate the wisdom of others.

Thanks for being polite friend, to bad all we got is the net but I will help you the best I can.
I prefer a secondary medium such as coca coir, or rockwool, but you should be fine planting them straight in the 4/1 or 5/1 mix. I never tired 3/1 because perlite is cheaper then vermiculite and for other reasons (see below). Be sure to soak the mix first with your R/O water before you plant, and stick a marker in there about half way down the cup to make a hole. Then plant the seed quickly, and gently so it stays moist. Water with R/O water once a day, and start to feed/water 1/4 strength nuts every other day once its head pops up turns green.

Positives:
Vermiculite and perlite both retain water and air pockets very well, they both are inert and do not react with the plants or nutrients. Perlite is consistent at pH neutral 7. Coco coir is great because it has a pH of 6-6.7.

Negatives:
Vermiculite can very in pH level on the alkaline side (pH 6-9.5) which is bad for our plants (we want somewhere around 5.5 to 6.8 ideally), plus it starts to break down over time and compresses the medium.
Perlite keeps its shape but likes to float when you add water. They balance each other out at a 5/1 or 4/1 mixture the pH level of the medium would be around 7 to 7.4 which is pretty good. The pH of R/O water is typically around 6 to 7 which brings your total pH level back were you want it. Do that mix and you shouldn't need to buy pH solution and pH the water, which saves money for more fancy specialty nutrients, water, and lights.

Wow that hurt my head lol..

You tips are most appreciated. I will be transferring the seeds into the medium either later today or tomorrow (depends on when they are ready). Thank you again for your advice.

i just started my second hempy grow. with both grows i used 100% perlite. works great just like that. are you going to grow them out in 16oz cups or are you going to transfer to bigger pots. i used 8 liter pots seed to harvest. it is easy. so easy that ill never go back to soil. ill have a journal up in a few days. looks like im only a couple days ahead of you. i have read everything there is to read about hempies plus one plant seed to finish. it will be cool to follow yours with mine and see if they are close??? good luck ill be watchin!

Seven seeds cracked open and some root started poking through. Planted those seven straight into 100% perlite in 16oz cups. I am using 100% perlite based on AZ Grow's advise on ph neutrality. Anyhow, I am watering twice daily around the seed area to keep it moist. I have the seeds under a dome, with 2 65w CFLS right above. My temps are at a pleasant 75, with a 50% humidity.

All I can do now is cross my fingers, toes and eyes and hope for a sprout.

after they sprout out of the perlite get ready for the longest 10 to 12 days of your life waiting for the tap root to get to the reserve. about 2 weeks in they will take off like wild fire!!

Awesome. I will follow your grow too. I will bog into either 1 or 3 gallon buckets when their growth takes off.

Have you started nuting yet? I think we are supposed to start nuting after the cotys come in.

I start nutes as soon as they start to grow (about 10 days to two weeks) @ 1/2 dose. At the third week i go to full strength. I water with a gallon jug per plant. Feed it 1 gallon distilled water till its gone then mix a gallon with nutes in it and feed it till gone. And so on.

OK, so here is the latest (can't post photos because the camera stopped working. Will try to post photos tomorrow.

7 seeds were germinated and planted into 100% perlite:

2 sprouted yesterday and I moved them out of the humidity dome.
2 close to sprouting
3 not sprouting. I can see the root, but it was not growing, so I placed those 3 into rockwool. Crossing my fingers.
