first grow, when to switch photoperiods?

alright, me and a buddy have a project grow we whipped up to try indoors... weve got a 12"x12"x3' box, a single 150 watt cfl and one plant, temperatures are a steady 78 in the box, 1 comp fan intake and 1 comp fan exhaust wired to a cell phone charger... the plant will be 2 weeks old in a couple days and has started shooting out its first set of 5 leaf fan leaves... lights have been on nonstop for the first 2 weeks, would it be cool to put the plant on a 18/6 schedule with it being 2 weeks old... vegging it until it reaches a foot in height and then switch her over to 12/12 til the bud reaches a good size?

i would seriously let her grow quite a bit taller than a foot. What kind of plant is she? Indica/sativa, what? this determines how big you want to let her get before you bloom her out... you should be fine putting her under 18/6. Most people run 18/6 from the start anyways. I don't when they're young only because i'm too lazy and wont remember to turn the light on and off. But as soon as they go in my veg room(hydro) they stay on 18/6

you can increase your yield 2 or 3 times with 'LST'. it increases the number of nodes that actually receive light, thereby helping for new buds to form the enitire stem length. instead of just having a top cola, you now can have side nodes also budding, therefore budding will occur the entire stem length not just on top like most other 'sog' setups or 'scrogs'. it also means that you can have literally more stem growing (since it's now growing horizontally) in the same amount of space, hence more bud area
