First DWC grow

The pineapple express is killer from G13. And at 28pound for a 5 pack i think it was, not bad price either. I know when I ordered it I had to get 2 chocolopes to set me over the 35 pound mark to get the promo I wanted. I've smoked the power kush from dinafem that my friend grew in soil. Was tasty. Shes cheap and dinafem always has deals going.

*EDIT* I'm going to have to tie up or stake the Veneno and the Pineapple Express. Veneno is packing on some serious weight and will be a strong contender if not the winner in terms of yield. FCJ looks and smells way tastier. Just defoliated a bit to give better light penetration to the lower buds. I'll sneak in tomorrow to snap some photos.

Day 45:

I want to see for myself what this no flush versus flush is all about. Rather than take peoples word for it i'm going to do an experiment.

I present Specimen A: Fruity Chronic Juice, no flush feeding about 1.7EC at the time, not sure if that matters, or if flushing does.

no flush.jpg

Also I figured out what to do with a drying area and i'm going to take the Afghan and the Chronic Haze out of the veg tent and flower them and use the veg tent for a bud drying area. Blast fans on it and exhaust the air out. Should work pretty efficiently, hang from ceiling bars with rope. Got that twig drying that way with the t5 light on in the tent. Shouldn't harm it much. This was a lower to middle growth area.

For best smoking dont put too much ventilation in the bud dryer. extraction is good but i dont think having fans on the buds do anyhing but speed dry it.

Just hang it somewhere where the humidity and temp are proper (75f 40-50% rh). fan drying will trap chlorophyll in your buds making them taste like shit. If you trim before dry they take about 3-5 days depending on rh and density. Untrimmed whole branches usually take about a week, maybe 10 days depending on how much u cut the plants down.

I'm just going to make a box that holds string from each and and hang buds from that. Going to get a rubbermaid container tonight.

Is there any bad health effects from smoking bud that was clipped when the plant was still feeding heavily?

Might burn when you smoke it, but unless your pushing very high feedings i think your fine. Friend of mine does GH lucas formula and never flushes. His AK-47 is some of the best ive ever had. I prefer to flush. Just plain water for 48 hrs before i cut.

I flush a week, just because it saves money mostly... I feel buds in week 7 have done 99% of the growing that is going to happen, at that point it just tends to start foxtailing anyways. Some nice colors start to show after about 10 days of flush as the chorlorphyll fades while the plant is still alive. I don't know the exact process, but I will tell you every plant that I've had 'fade' before harvest has been more amazing in flavor and scent then ones that don't fade.

I believe flushing does help make a more quality smoke but I dont think the difference is enough to justify changing out all my buckets. I gave up on flushing when I switched to hydro.

Thanks everyone for your input and experiences, much appreciated. The bud smelled very chlorophyll like this morning so I just tossed it. Was a gram, oh well. I figured the study wouldn't have been that accurate as the plants would have been different times of their life cycles and would have effected taste. I'll revisit this with 2 clones off same mother and harvest both same time and dry and cure same time except one will have a flush and the other won't and see the differences.

SG15 - The pineapple express is getting beefy. For being only 9 inches when put to flower i'm very impressed with how fast it grew and how much it packed on. I need to get some sort of tomato cage in there to hold up the branches as they're very weak with those heavy nugs. The pistils are still white and I imagine its going to put on a little more weight until it matures, those branches definitely won't support more. The Veneno still has white pistils, though I did notice an orange tint to some last night.

Chopped Bubba 76, was tough work trimming those tiny buds. Got them hanging in the tent with my 315CFM fan sucking air in and out. 3 air changes a minute.

Put Afghan Kush and Chronic Haze into flower at 1.5EC. I really let them go, and didn't change their buckets for a month or add anymore nutes and they were showing some def. for sure. Hopefully they don't freak to the introduction of nutrients at that level. Going to monitor those closely.

Seeing some orange on the pineapple express and more on the veneno. Flushing PE, FCJ, and veneno and will chop FCJ next monday and let veneno and PE go longer maybe for 1.5-2 week flush. Who knows at this point. I might be a bit early on the PE, but oh well its pistils turning orange so its a good sign it's finishing.

I'm more worried about odour honestly. I can't spend 7-10 days drying bud when you can almost smell it outside my door. It usually takes ~5 days for me. I have to compromise.

Smell isn't bad to be honest. It is when you open the door and go in the room. I hear this is because my scrubber needs to be reactivated with like a blow dryer. Heat up the carbon in it. Also my prefilter looks like shit, I need to wash it. But it doesn't smell at the exhaust end outside so thats good.

Some nugs fell off when I was clipping so I got them drying on my computer desk. Smells fantastic. Bit wet smelling, but thats because it is wet.

I don't think these will take that long to dry. I'll snap some pictures later. Real small popcorn throughout, trimmed her nicely. Got up in there and got all the leaves out.

ya that sounds like too much air running across those buds. I have a simple computer fan installed for intake/outtake in my micro cab that i first started growing in. dry in 4-5 days, all my friends that have been growing for years are starting to build these cabinets lol, They like how my bud drys/cures

Day 50:

Temp: 78F RH@85%

Drying area: 75F RH@85%

Put in the dehumidifier and now 1.5 hrs later humidity is around 65%. But the temp is now 84F under the HPS and it feels like hot air is blowing out the dehumidifier. With the cooling off outside I hope to get the temps down to 80F and 60%RH I could deal with. 50% would be fantastic, but thats not happening with my current setup on days where the weather is the way it is.

Weather outside was high 90's at like 90%RH outside. Way to start summer kicking my ass. Definitely gotta get that light exhaust OUT of the room. But it requires cutting into the drywall ceiling, best for after these have flowered as moving them out of the room isn't an option.

I think I worked out a good design. I naturally have to taper an 8" tee down to 6" where the light exhaust will connect into the main exhaust so I think that will make the static pressure greater on the light exhaust side so it should force the air out with the path of least resistance. The distance the air will travel is the same, maybe 8ft of 6" flex and a light reflector and all the bends that flex duct offers and (2) 90deg 6" elbows. Versus: 8ft of 8" solid duct with (2) 90deg elbows and as mentioned same distance traveled. Negating the fact that the air going out the main will have to bend 90 degrees to back up the system I think it will go right on out and when the light is on the air would come crashing into the tee wall and get pushed out with the constant flowing main exhaust.

Will see how this idea plays out in the next couple weeks.

Day 51:

Still battling the humidity. I'd like to say i'm winning the fight, but with 24/7 dehumidifying I cannot get under 60%. Lowest point today was 61% at 80F. It's now 80F @ 66%

Today is a day 3 of the flush and day 3 of drying. The buds feel dry. Smell more chemically than chlorophyll like. Maybe i'll jar a stick today and see what its like in a few hours.

I smoked the nugs on my desk last night. Didn't stay lit worth a damn, but smoked. Definitely needed more drying.

Fruity Chronic Juice is looking so fucking good. I just wanna chop her down now. I shined my microscope light in there just now to check the humidity and shes glistening like a diamond.
