First dwc grow-nutrients

Hello, I just got my setup started and running but I am wondering how much the plant will benefit in the end by adding nutrients. Right now I am just using distilled water which is working great, and I would rather not bother buying nutes and a ppm meter if they aren't going to make a huge difference in my plants growth.

any advice will help due to the fact that I am new to this.

You can keep it simple with the nutes.
For example, Gen Hydro 946ml bottles run about $13/each. Just grab Micro and Bloom for $26
Gen Hydro's PH Up and PH Down are cheap too (about same price).

What WILL cost are GOOD ppm and ph meters. Can't skip on those because they are essential and will last YEARS if you get a good brand like Milwaukee, Hanna or Truncheon.
Those will run between $50 - $250, depending on what models you buy. The ph meter always costs the most just so you know.

Ok thanks for everything guys, i just picked up biothrive grow and bloom which apparently does not affect the ph of the water so that worked out ha.

Sorry for a semi silly question im still learning

I know a lot of those nutes claim to be ph balanced but i have found in DWC that you still need to check your ph and ppm religiously because depending on how much water you have in your res the ph can change daily... i would still get yourself a ph and ppm meter... better to be safe than sorry.

trying to grow in a hydro set up without a ph meter or at least a test kit,and a ppm meter is like driving blind.you need to know what both are at for the plant to benifit from hydro.do a little reading and you will find out why you need these tools, good luck

excellent point.

not to diss flo-gro becasue he always has good advice, you really dont need the expensive ph & ppm meters at this juncture. i bought the cheapy units on ebay & they serve me quite nicely.

you can build up experience & buy the nice units later.

& if you like growing hydro (in this case dwc) just upgrade later... & you'll have backs ups too.

rendundancy is important in hydro.
any serious, my crop is on the line, bubbler has extra everything : air lines, pumps, lids, buckets, stones, etc...

i use the cheap ppm & ph pens from ebay ... & just make sure i calibrate them monthly.

i do keep fish & have standard test kits... so, being a freak for detail, i can check the validity of my meters the old school way.
