First Cab...stoked!

Alright everyone, new member and newb grower so go easy on me.

I have been lurking in the cab grow section for far too long and I thing it's time. I've been trying to get a grow going for or a while but with limited real estate and lack of enthusiasm from my better half, it's put a bit of a damper on things but FINALLY have the green light...as long as its not just the dank I'm growin. SO, I have scribbled up some plans and already have a majority of what i need. Just need to get the ball rolling.

**THIS THREAD WILL BE A JOURNAL OF MY FIRST GROW, MODS FEEL FREE TO MOVE IF NECESSARY**

So here's what I have so far...sorry for lack of photos. Will update as I go along.

60x60x80cm shorty cab, painted flat white
100W Cobb LED
100mm/4" inline exhaust
Rectangular or 4" Round filtered passive intake.^TIPS?^
DIY carbon filter, compliments of a couple RUI members. We'll see which direction I take it.

2-4 plants SCROGed out. I'm thinking two just to get in to the swing of things and I can squeeze some chili's and other little experimental veggies in there...maybe.

Strain candidates:
Purple Glam Kush - Bulk Seed Bank
Grape Melana Bomb - Barney's Farm
(Might just buy both, and run one if each.)

I will be running Coco in 2-3 liter pots. Haven't quite decided on nutrients just yet but possibly Canna A&B with microbes and maybe a bloom booster down the road. But as I said, still working on that. I want to get this fella built first before I get in over my head. Haha

Any and all comments and recommendations are welcome! I'll take all the help I can get. I'm sure things will look better once I get started this week.

Thanks for looking!

I've got a similar setup to yours. Minus 30cm width either way. Similar light too. Would recommend you use 5 liter pots at least. Subbed and hope you have better luck than I am.

@twostrokenut thanks for the sub!

@Nugachino I have been watching your thread. I'm sorry for your tough luck. Just keep at it! Practice makes perfect. I've been trying to absorb as much as I can and hopefully mine will yield SOMETHING. Lol Thats all I ask for. That brings me to the small pots. Seeing as I won't be running autos, I will probably veg for a week or so at 18-6 after the seeds break surface. Throw in a transplant from seedling starter pots to the 2 or 3L in there somewhere, and then top or FIM once or twice. Given all if that, I wanted to use the small pot size as a safety cap for plant size. They are relatively squat plants to start with but just in case, I figured that would be a good way to keep the growth/stretch under control. The way I see it, in my case, a small plant, I can deal with. An overgrown plant, I can do nothing with anf it's back to stage 1. If that is not how that works and going to a 5L would be more beneficial someone please chime in. I have much to learn and am open to anything.

Cheers man. I'd say give them more than a few weeks in veg. I've only had mine for less than a fortnight. And they've still got heaps of room to grow. Both upwards and out. Bigger roots support bigger plants. And in effect, bigger yields (depending on strain too). I too intend to use the fim/top method along with lst to obtain a short bushy plant. Just try not to over do things. That's my problem. Too much everything.

Right, so what you're saying is give them a reasonable amount for root growth but maintain size by training, topping, ect. Makes sense. I guess it would be a bummer if I got in to week 6 of flower or something and need a transplant.

The real question here is, would larger pots be necessary if I plan to switch to 12-12 after a week or two of veg? It doesn't make any difference to me in practice. I am more curious if it's an absolute MUST.

A larger pot allows for a bigger over all plant. And vegging for only a few weeks won't actually yield you all that much. Basically you try to grow your plants to around a third to half of the remaining available space. Keeping in mind distances from the light.

Right but isn't veg time relative when it comes to medium, environment and nute regimen? I'll be running enriched Coco with half strength nutes. In my past experience with other etible flowers and fruits, growth rate can be close to double what you see in soil.

Guess you're better versed than I am. However. I'd still say grow to a certain height before flowering. Otherwise you'll end up with stuff all smoke.

That's a fair enough suggestion! I have never grown in an enclosed space before so I'll keep the growth limit in mind.

I wouldn't say better versed. I just read a lot. I've never grown cannabis so all my reading could be all for none if I can't apply it correctly. Lol we'll see!

For all my attempts at growing. I've yet to attain flowering let alone harvest from any cannabis plant I've had. My gardens on the other hand... those seem to work.

Haha Thanks for the pep talk! I think when you get in to supplying a complete life support system for a plant, things get a little more complicated so I don't think that is so abnormal that it can take a while to work out the kinks. Stay positive!

No worries bro.

Yeah I guess you're right. Gotta stay positive. Though, if I manage to kill these ones. I'm going to do a buttload more reading. Then work on building a better cabinet. Something taller. And more discreet.

Good luck.

You running coco hempy's?
I don't think I'm going to run hempy's this time. I have thought about it but I'm going to hand water until I learn a bit more and get a better dedicated grow space. Eventually, I plan to have a respectably sized room and can use this little cab as an little propagation room for clones or something.

Right ooooon! Then maybe I'm thinking of something else...Hmmm. I'll look in to it! I'll have to see if they are even something worth getting ahold of where I am.
just drill a drain hole in the side of your pot, no holes in the bottom. Sounds like you're using hydro nutes anyways. Don't let me change your plan man, you have a good one. Something for the future.

That's what I was intending on doing with my cab if I ever upgrade. Make this one either a vegging or cloning chamber.
