this makes me happy, i was in the dark on a lot of these methods, but now i think i understand what to do. doesnt the plant essentially produce the same amount of buds, except instead of 1 big cola its multiple smaller ones? does topping actually effect the end result (dry weight)?

Tis me. :D Who pray tell is asking? Has it really been 11 years? Sheesh, how time flies when you're havin' fun.

Tanks for dee warm welcome,
UB

I'm still potroast, and have been since adpc. I didn't make the move with you to OG, and stayed in remailer-chaining, PGP-encryption mode until recently. There's a few of us still around the net, most with different handles. It's good to see you!

There's plenty to help with around here, there are so many folks who want to learn about growing, our favorite passtime has exploded in popularity. So thank you for helping!

It depends on several factors, main one being light efficiency. By opening up the plant to more light you effectively produce more carbos via photosynthesis and of course with 4 MAIN colas instead of one you have a better chance for higher yields. It's low maintenance as opposed to SCROG too. Only you can plan and manage your garden according to your goals, garden footprint, resources, etc. Choose whatever profile works best for you.

Good luck,
UB

Wow! ADPC, man that does go way back! I remember you now. I haven't used PGP or remailers probably in about 8 years. Did you see where Ron finally hung up the cann.com/Marihemp op? Of course, you can still buy his archives. :-P We're getting off topic, so you got a PM coming your way.

BTW, I never would have found this place if I hadn't been Googling Griffin's Spin-Out one day. This is what I found hehe by accident, someone lifting my work stripping the Uncle Ben signoff. Happens quite often to me. https://www.rollitup.org/general-marijuana-growing/9114-spin-out-chemical-root-pruning.html

I fixed that thread for you, giving you credit. Let me know when you find some more of your work here.

Sorry for the personal interuption, it's just two old friends who pass on the street. We'll head into a bar for some talk of the good old days.

Now back to Fimming and topping!

Hi Uncle Ben Great thread many thanks. I'm on page 12 of "the Legend of Uncle Ben post @ PlanetGanja and I promise I will never trim a fan leaf again. I'm a first timer who has finally done enough damage to my 2 Snow Whites that they may be revolting and I wonder if i'ts too late. 5 gal buckets, Scotts soil 400w MH, 23 hrs on 1 off. I water 32 ounces every other day I use AN sensi grow A+B, 8 week old grow. A week ago I noticed the very tips of some of the plants starting to burn/turn brown so I backed way off of the nutes. After reading your thread night before last I raised my light to keep from damaging my leaves It's now about 28" above the tops. Then I got the bright idea to add some barricade to my water you know, so they would be strong enough to hold up all that bud I'm going to get. Well tonite they look pretty wilty like they are very thirsty, I watered them the 32 ounces but I wonder if the Barricade tipped them over btw I used 5 ml per quart of Barricade. When I called AN some sweet little girl recomended 15 ml per quart. Sorry about being an off topic bastard but I assure I've been called worse. Thanks again Cheers

I panicked for nothing, watered last night and they are fine this morning soil is pretty loose yet and water runs right through unfortunately I supercropped and fimmed before I learned of the planetganja thread. They survived but I think there is a definite setback period especially with fim. Probly cause I missed too. Next grow will be a sativa looking forward to topping and 4 main colas Thanks again Cheers

Check out post #83 in this thread. Page 9 I believe. Settle down in a comfy chair with a few beers and a notebook to take notes with. Cheers

Attached Is a Picture of Fimming and Topping.

Hope this helps.
Thanks for the photo, but it seems a bit misleading according to what was an accepted practice at OG - cutting thru a node in order to get branching just below that cut from the nodal tissue remaining.

This is very similiar to my method of topping to get 4 new main colas, just one node too much here, plus there is no need to cut thru the leaves. Don't know what that is all about. That diagram is a perfect example of someone that doesn't understand plant responses as my friends who were successful at "fimming" usually had about 6 to 8 outputs at the cut. Having said that, fimming is not reliable nor necessarily predictable regarding the plant's response, IF, there is even a consensus on how it's done in the first place. :D
