Fan/duct connection

Hey y'all newb here. Trying to figure out how to connect 10 inch ducting to an 8 inch hurricane exhaust fan which is connected straight to to the phresh carbon filter..... is 10 inch ducting compatible with 8 inch fan?? I thought bigger is safer so I bought the ten inch one but when I tried to attach it with the clamps that came with it , it ripped and tore into ducting.....been watching you tube videos and I'm wondering if I should use duct tape first then clamp?? Thing is I kept tightening the clamp because it didn't feel tight against fan and that's when it ripped. So is there a way to use this 10 in ducting? it's black and made specially reflective style . Or should I go get 8 inch ducting and try it that way. Any info or advice appreciated.

You need duct reducers to make this work.

I would just buy some 8 inch ducting if you have more than 1 connection though. Cheaper than buying a load of reducers and 8 inch ducting would be fine for 8 inch fans/filters. Also the less connections you have the less likely you are to have smell leaks.

Yeah Home Depot or Lowes will carry them. Had no luck with Ace here locally so I'd recommend avoiding there, they had a very limited selection. Not even any 6" clamps!

8 to 10 inch is a non-standard size, though, so a lot of Lowe's and HDs may not stock it in the store. Whenever I go, they always seem to have tons of stuff in 6 inch, a few 4 inch, and just one or two thing for other sizes. Depends on the store, but you might want to call ahead and see if they have it in stock or need to special order it.

yea i already ordered it online, just waiting for it to come in at this point.....once thats done ill hang system and lights and start playing with water system to see if theres any leaks.....after that its germ and plant

@loftygoals btw i check out another thread.....whoa very impressed at your attention to detail and ability to improvise. I have much to learn from you especially when it comes to FLIR. im in US and its def a prob here to. Suggestions on the exhaust system for my set up? should i heat throughout house or out window? i know through out house is better but im in a place thats hot and humid so id have to run AC very cold and my gf already complains....dont want to have to get separate ac system....

i have a friend that uses the shell of an old air conditioner in a second floor window to exhaust out of, its supposed to have air blowing out of it, and the air is supposed to be hot, so anyone who can hear it isnt going to be surprised, and anyone pointing a flir at it will just see hot air coming out of a thing designed to vent hot air

I've been told FLIR is less of a concern than it is made out to be. Maybe some with more experience in law enforcement can correct me, but I know for a fact it was ruled as not to be probable cause. Not to say it can't be used to build a case against you, but from what I have heard the usage of it to detect small marijuana grows has dwindled significantly. Personally, I'm legal so I don't give a shit myself lol, but I've been in your shoes and didn't care much then either. As long as you're not growing 100's of plants I'd say don't sweat it, exhaust it outdoors.

@gogogogogogo well lucky u mfer lol. Nah I feel u though as far as small grow setups not being a major priority especially with all the legalization and decriminalization going on. I'm just a paranoid mfer who reads too much sometimes especially when high.... do u think I should use a separate portable a.c. unit like window style maybe?? That's where my next issue is being that I live with someone who's always cold!!! Idk if I should do a passive intake or dual or just use a.c. and buy her a portable heater to carry around lol that will be funny to see. Idk I'm slowly piecing this thing together one step at a time and it can be difficult to do right the first time.....

9x9 gorilla grow tent 2 solar storm 880s from California lightworks and I'm looking into getting another led light or two and maybe some cfls or t5 to supplement but haven't decided yet.....12 site bubble flow bucket system btw

Never used LED's but I would think a 8" fan would do the trick. I'd probably go with 8" ducting so that if heat remains an issue you can install some booster fans. They're surprisingly inexpensive (my 240cfm 6" was like 20 bucks) and easier to add to an existing setup than throwing in new fans in the tent IMO.

27 bucks for an extra 400 CFM. It's a no-brainer to me. I might even try just running with these sometime. Get four 6" fans for the price of one good inline fan and you get 2x the CFM. Food for thought.

Yea I actually just got a 8 inch 745 phresh filter with 735 hurricane fan 8 inch to.where I fucked up was getting the 10 inch thermal ducting instead of 8 hence the galvanized reducer increaser needed . Once that comes I'm plugging up hanging and then time to start seeing temps with normal a.c. I guess. ..if it's too hot ill consider buying a portable a.c. just for tent.

Yeah, it's not such a problem in the US:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyllo_v._United_States

They can't use FLIR against you in the US without a warrant as it's considered a search... and you can't be searched without a reason.

In the UK they can fly over a city, pick out any houses which look especially warm and raid them:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1039768/Police-raid-home-Blunkett-Bobby-infrared-helicopter-mistook-bad-insulation-cannabis-factory.html

You see there are cases of poorly insulated properties being busted for no other reason.

That is why my grow is well insulated and warm air is vented into the house. If I were in the US I'd probably have just vented outside.

i just find it amazing that they still waste that much time and money trying to stop people from smoking weed. if they put that much effort into stopping drunk drivers the roads would be much safer
