just set up my first grow room in a an 8feet x 8feet tent got 4 600w lights 8" extractor and a 6" inlet fan.

I've got 6 afghan kush and 6 widow going in the tent they've just popped through the soil and are looking great.

I've got s little closet set up for them with a 300w cfl but the bulb ain't coming until tomorrow so I've put them under a 400 about 18 inches away was told this would be ok? (I'll be putting them under the cfl as soon as it comes)or is there a need??

I'm a newb and ain't to sure about the nutrients I've got ionic boost and bloom but would love some advice on when to jump in and start feeding them.Ive read so many different time

looking for as much advice as possible and any comments would be much appreciated

whatz up new guy

ummm u are just starting
to make this easy on u and let u learn ..........i would tell u to order a Go Box
it is a all in one buy/ feed line for the plants ........it is organic so it feeds the fungi and micros in the soil (it removes the need to flush it and keeps PH balance)
http://www.amazon.com/General-Hydroponics-Organics-Go-Box/dp/B004PS4B08

to make it easy on yah i would order 1ml and 3 ml pipettes (500 of each lasted me 2 years) but it makes mixing up the feed alot easier and u can controll the str easier

one thing i would add on is Rapid Start .........this is rooting stuff the best i used so far great roots wth the stuff
http://www.amazon.com/General-Hydroponics-Rapid-Start-Branching/dp/B005H79552

as for putting them under your light if it is a MH bulb u are ok ..........u can allow the plant to get with in 12 inches of it but when it gets that close bring the light up more (for now i keep it about 14/16 inches and check every day ..........u will not get a height limit untill the plants flip into flowering and strech out )

oh that number of plants is high......for a 8x8 .......what size planters are u using (the root size directly effects the size of the plant ) if u are using big soil pots like 7/10 gallons u are going to run out of room when they go into flowering u need to think about setting up a SCRoG

if there in soil you can get away with just water for awhile i dont even give mine any in veg.
and 18in is pretty close for seeds. i have my lights several feet above them and get good results

thanks for the response guys!

justug I was told that the ionic was the same. as in I wouldn't need to flush as it keep the ph or has someone been filling me full of rubbish haha

I'm going to put them in 3gallon auto pots but I'm not setting them up I'm going to water them my self just so I can identify any problems a little sooner. i was going to get some formulex for them to start them off for a week or two. then a the ionic soil through veg upto one week into flowering then switch to bloom and keep that right through with the boost around four weeks before harvest. do you think that would be ok or??

saying that them boxes are pretty appealing how many would you say I'd need. it's a mh in there but I'm going to put them under the cfl today just to be safe. do you think they might out grow the room and could I go 5 gallon pots?? Sorry about the questions man I put up a couple threads before and no one commented man haha

ionic........can u link it never heard of it before (everything i know is ones i personally tried)

the go box 1 box will do your whole grow plus a few plants later (some of the items have a shelf life and like lower temps try to use it all up with in 9 months)

as for your pot size ........5 gallon pots u are looking at a 2x2 footprint avg per plant u can only get 8 total (that is no work room in the tent at all) .......even with 3 gallon pots i got a avg 1x1/1.5x1.5

your time table for the plant is off with it being photos
veggie stage 4/6 weeks............... flowering stage 8/12 weeks........... drying time 1 week......... curing time 8 weeks (smokable after the dry but strongest stinkiest after the cure)

CFL is fine i personally use T5s .......but u only want them under that light for the really early growth ........sorry tech lingo not my strongest point
the little baby leaf comes out .....then u get that first true leaf ....then nodes start and u get the big fan leaf ( a node is the area between the fan leaves off man stalk) when u get your first node /second node u want to move the plant from the CFL to the MH

after 4/6 weeks of growth in there u change out the bulb to a HPS and alter the time to a 12/12 12 on 12 off (growth is 18/6).........they will stretch out and bud at this point ........if u are going to scrog it u should set it up right as u change to flowering

yeah im just putting them in they're new home under the cfl :smile: im going to put them as you say 4 weeks veg maybe a little less because of the space issue and change over to flower as soon as they're large enough. im going to just water them for the next two weeks then start to give them some nutrients. my widow is looking a lot better than my afghan don't seem to be as healthy looking leaves are curved around upoased to fanned out. do you think it's just the different strains as theyre in the same conditions??

every plant is different .......one might like this other might like more or less of that ......the first time u grow a plant count it as your baseline plant (then next time tweak your feeding and do better)

as for feeding u should start that now ......yes the soil has power in it but the plant needs to break it down to use.....with feeding it now u are supplying food to the plant for growth and rooting that it can use directly (it does not need to convert into another form to use it ) .....just alter the feeding u can do it every day at a weaker str or go a higher str and do it every other watering

the best advice i can give u is grow the plants out try to make them nice ......when it is about to flip into flowering i remove the 4 lower branching 1 node worth plus that little sucker branch at the very very bottom ........this will increase the size and weight of the buds( to do it right u clean the scissors .....soak them in a shot of 100 proof pull out fling dry set it on fire to remove anything else dry with a clean towel then make your cut .........on the main stalk where u made your cut to remove the branch take some honey on your finger and wipe it over the cut on the stalk .....honey will protect it from getting a infection or something and seal it off so water is not lost)

I would have to disagree about your space. I would think that you would have plenty of room for 8 plants in an 64 sq ft area. I grow two in an 9 sq ft area, in 7 1/2 gal pots. Pull 12 oz on this grow.

i am basing my info off my grows...........photos might be different but i am a auto .......if i do it right the plant boom and just shoots off in flowering (i like to cause Nutr burn then back my feeding down a little and hold that to push the plant) .........so the info i give is based off good soils and heavy feedings

3x3 area is small only one of my plants fit in that area ....and alot of them will be smooshed on the wall

All depends on pot size and veg time. I do 4-5 plants per 1000w light over a 4x4 area in 10g pots, veg for 3-4 weeks depending on strain. You can do 8-10 plants in 5 gallons and veg for 2 weeks or 16-20 plants in 2 gallons and veg for a week. Its all personal preference. I personally like a little bit bigger plants but I know people that are successful doing many small plants per light vs a few larger ones. Photo plants are very different (and better in my opinion) because you have this option on how long to veg them for and how many plants per light you prefer doing. You can completely control your canopy size

next time use the coco pots when the roots get to the point u can plant the whole thing into a 5 gallon soil bag
http://www.amazon.com/Planters-Pride-RZR02252-Coconut-12-Pack/dp/B000RNB1XK

the pots will keep the plant small since the outter edges will dry out (call air pruning ) but once u move that pot into soil that will not be the case anymore the whole thing will be wet and the roots will grow out of that into the soil in the bigger planter untill it reaches the edge

i got man hands so tiny fine things like tend to get wrecked when i am messing with them ......to start off i used the Jiffy plug method in one of there green house (except i add a cup of sexlter water in it to release Co2) so i have spourts with in 3 days of planting then i can move them to one of those pots or just put it in the final planter using the jiffy plug
