Epsoma plant tone.

I'm new to growing organic, i've done some reading on espoma plant tone that it is a pretty good mix in soil fert so I ordered some along with the espoma potting soil. I'm wondering how much should I mix into the soil I'll be growing in 3 gallon smart pots indoors under a 400w HPS. I'll be using the tomato tone for flowering too. Should I let it sit aka cook for a few weeks before replanting into it so it's not so hot?

Is there a reason you're going with the little 3-gal pots?

If your goal is to run this as a more or less "water only" grow, you'll want AT LEAST 5-gal pots; ideally 7 or 10-gal.

A 3-gal pot will more than likely need supplemental feeding to get through to harvest. This isn't necessarily a bad thing id your prepared to brew nutrient teas. Top dressing is also an option, but it's not as fast acting as a tea (maybe not the best option for the shorter grow cycle you'll have in 3-gal pots).

Good luck!

epsoma is a great product to amend soils with...I use the Bio Starter...and plant tone also..both seem the same....you wont need the tomato tone...plant tone will do it all....

now why small pots..go at least 5 gallons....I grow in dirt pots all the time and you wont believe the root system in them pots...its solid top to bottom....I use 65's and 25's...

also the epsoma soil is great...i used it for 2 years but could not get it any more so I went with100% compost...with plant tone or bio starter mixed in..kelp meal...lime..crushed oyster shells...crab meal..EWC....and bone meal.alfalpha pellets..oh and azomite......I cook it 3 weeks and you can feel the soil is warm ..once done its best soil ever

Have any of you guys just mixed Espoma fresh and used it? I grow year round in Hawaii in 70 gallon planters and mix soil with Espoma and use it immediately on a regular basis and have never had nutrient burn issues even with pure sativa strains.

If anything the reason for letting it cook is because Plant-tone is somewhat slow acting so it takes a little time for most of it to become available to the plant, but it works fine for me with seedlings to use right away.

Anyway, either way is fine I'm sure, I'm just speaking from my experience.

if you just use plant tone mixed in soil you van plant right away..its the other amendments that cook ..like kelp meal...alfalpha meal...they sorta compost in the soil..gets hot temp wise...but epsoma alone its plantable right away it has never burnt a plant yet

I should probably also mention I use it at the recommended rate of 1 cup per cu. ft. (about 7 gallons of soil). Previously Espoma recommended 2 cups per cu. ft. and that may have been too hot for young plants (I don't know, I never tried it).

I used 3 gallon pots over the summer growing autos in coco but I see what you guys are saying the 5 gallons will probably be better ill probably get some and grow them in there. I just wanna keep the plant short as possible I only have a 5 ft tall tent.
