Epilepsy + MM in Canada

Hi,

I'm 21 years old and live in Quebec, Canada. I was diagnosed with epilepsy last december after I had a second seizure (grand mal) and I've been on medication ever since (epival, divalproex). I get frequent headaches, dizziness and have trouble sleeping most nights. I've been reading up on epilepsy and medical marijuana and found some cases where marijuana can act as an anti-convulsant and replace other anti-convulsants completely.

I haven't spoken to my neurologist about it yet and I wanted to ask around first to see if it was even remotely possible for me to be eligible, given my age and how long I've been on medication for, to avoid looking like a complete fool. I'm afraid that they might think that I'm just a teen looking to get high legally.

Any insight into the matter would be extremely helpful!

Thanks in advance,

I know you're in Canada, but in the U.S. most of the states that have legalized MM list epilepsy as a treatable condition. Unfortunately my state hasn't legalized MM (yet) but i still use it and it definitely makes a difference in my case. My wife insists that I continue to use it because she can notice a big difference in me and she doesn't even smoke. Definitely ask your neurologist about it and if he has a problem with it then that's his hang-up. You're well being is more important than other people's opinion. Hope it works out for you...

I would say go for it. Ask your doctor about it. If he says no, try it anyways. You will only know if it will help if you try it yourself. Maybe try some edibles first like a weed cookie or brownie. make sure you have nothin to do that day though.

Also.. As a Canadian citizen, you have the right to use Alternative Medicine. Try not so much "Asking" your DR.. but telling him. When I first mentioned it to my DR, I told him I was considering switching to MMJ, and that I had did a lot of research on the subject. He said "Well, that's you decision" but he of coarse explained the disadvantages, and side effects. He is supposed to be there for you, and your medical needs... Thats how he makes his money.. If he is not doing his job, find someone that will.
