By the looks of things, neither of you ever harvested any weed. You're both trying to run a first grow. Can you name a single reason as to why anyone should take the time to actually discuss this topic with either of you?

Simon
Not my first harvest and I know more about drying and harvesting than you could ever dream. LEARN something here. Im sure youve dried weed wrong for a real long time and your buds seemed fine to you...It needs to be understood exactly how long the viability of the buds will remain. That is the CURING process. IF you gave a shit youde have looked into this more before blabbing a thread about how I dont know how to harvest. Youll be growing the Mid grade until your ready to open your mind..cant help ya

I interpret the "cure first" part as meaning you harvest and trim, then hang a few days before really airing them out and drying before jar curing. He said for the first few days the metabolic process continues, I take that as a first "cure"

I can see why it would work, but it just isn't practical in most situations...he says to keep it cool with 50% humidity for so long and then lower the humidity and turn up the heat til it is dry and then put it in jars...I say whatever makes ya happier with your product... I have a vaporizer and enjoy smoking straight off the plant sometimes...I'm not terribly picky though about these sorts of things. Now I don't like when I buy some and it turns to dust when you touch it...not cool, but other than overdry or moldy I am happy with anything in between...I dry mine until the stems are somewhat snappy...and then I put it in a jar and usually have to set it back out to dry once or more again...having a hard time getting this last bit to dry...If I leave it out the tips all get really crispy so I put it in the jar...next time I open the jar it is really wet again...it leaves puddles in the jar, but feels super dry if I leave it out...so I am just laying it out and drying out the jar and then when they get crispy again back in the jar...and I assume that soon they should be able to stay in the jar without sweating like fat men.

Interesting read, Wouldn't really work for me though, Humidity is so low here. It's hard to keep my buds moist enough for a decent cure, even after only 4 days of drying :/

Now I remember you! You're the lying sack of crap that I caught bullshitting in another thread. Here's the link:

Look at the bright side; at least you have the genius of the Pickle to commiserate with and the fully actualized entertainment value that comes with it. You know, I'm starting to like this forum.

Ed is a legend with tons of good info, but sometimes he’s a little weak on the science.

Some people have been doing the following for 45 years. Quick and simple, excellent bud. Fancy gizmos not needed, just more marketing and another industry.

Pot CURES when cells have high water content and enzymes are still functioning. They break down some chlorophyll and other molecules, free nitrogen is reduced. Enzymes convert xanthophyll pigments to rose ketones (terpenes). The smoke is smooth, not harsh. These chemical reactions are part of modern tobacco curing.

Hang freshly trimmed buds in the dark. Relative humidity about 90%, but no condensation on the buds. About 80F because 60F to 73F is ideal for mould. A little continuous air exchange and circulation to remove ethylene gas. Sample daily. After 3 to 5 days, the buds should look and weigh about the same as they started.

DRY until almost ready to smoke. Terpene loss with drying is a function of time and temp. Many high quality herbs are dried with high airflow and low RH at 85F to retain maximum terpenes (essential oils). Lots of research, it’s big business.

Trim buds off stems. AGE about 1 week at room temp, airtight. Check daily, burp as needed. Leave open to finish drying. Store airtight and cold to slow chemical reactions that degrade THC and terpenes. (Or store airtight in the deep freezer right after aging. That little bit of extra moisture keeps the buds intact. Defrost sealed. Frost free freezer is sort of ok, insulate buds to reduce temp cycling)

Healthy buds don’t mould while curing. Don’t cure buds that have mould.

When drying slowly right after harvest, enzymes function until water content is too low. Some curing at the start of drying.

Exactly what im thinking. Just like another post somewhere about drying at 80degrees. I think some are right when they say there are people that are purposely trying to jack up and ruin people's grow just for kicks and giggles.

ed rosenthal is a pioneer in the cultivation of marijuana . only in the last 10 years now has marijuana been more accepted and with that testing has been easier . ITS GROWING! NOT rocket science ! some people have a green thumb and some dont ( even tho they think they do ) .
people have been cultivating for hundreds of years without the use of computers and testing .... to all you little youngsters out there ... its called trail and error and learning threw experience . which by farem blows away all you pampered little girls , that got handed a nutrient recipe and some seeds and thing there grand masters . but throw one deficency at there plants and watch them open Eds books up first to find out how they can fix there royal fuck ups . some of you should quit growing . the responses first off tell no lies . you can say you pro all day long but can tell in almost all your responses and aswers that a majority of you are just repeating what you have read . some of you yes i can see your speaking from experience .these are the people that will grow connoiseur type bud and the rest , well not so good at all . GENETICS AND PHENO HUNTING is key!
