DWC first time, serious issues

2 Gallon buckets with lids. Completely wrapped with HVAC heavy duty aluminum tape. Lids same. There are no light leaks from the tape or lid/bucket seal. Drilled a 2" hole in the center of the lid for the netpot. Drilled a 1" hole near the edge for the airline tubing and air to escape. Covered the hole with some reflective bubble wrap, tented so air can escape. Running 2 Apollo horticulture 6 outlet 35 watt 40 lpm air pumps each one has one run per pot so they are redundant. 2 CREE CXA 3070's for light. Air temp peaked at 81 today, but usually around 70. I had covered the AC unit to prevent draft from unseasonably (sub zero) cold air.

The water is SM-90 and Botanicare CNS 17 Bloom. These went straight from clone to flow, small test run SOG. I run the same nutes/sterile on a low pressure aeroponic SCROG setup, in the same room, with no issues of growth. The clones were clean when they went in, the buckets were new and clean, and the airline and stones were all new. Pics are of the worst affected plant. I had a run of root rot in a low pressure aero sprayer system a while back, this looks a lot different. It looks almost like eggs on the sides of the bucket, and the roots almost look like they have dirt in them.

My only guess is the temp ran a bit high and the tented foil is not blocking out all the light. I've not had issues with root rot since dropping room temp and keeping the SM-90 in the water. Was way more troublesome when I ran live culture.

Worked! Hah

Looks like root aphids, the black dots in there.
From googling and browsing I think its brown algae, I'm just not sure how it developed so quickly. Definitely no bugs/mites/gnats.

I'm tired of trying to run bennies I do t have the time for all the stuff. Sterile/dead rez is what I'm after. A couple other forums recommended 1-2 ml of regular bleach per gallon to sterilize then 1 ml per gallon to maintain. I think I'll give that a shot. I'm going to tape down the tents to make sure its not letting light in.

I've never had a pronlem with light causing issues with dwc. My buckets are semi transparent and I lift them out daily to check the roots. Can you take a closer pic of the roots?

This is from this morning. I added 4ml chlorine per tub, just shy of 2 gal each. There's no apparent change in roots or presence of the brown stuff. Its still on the walls of the tubs, in the roots, and clouding the water. I think I'm going to pull the plants, clean the tubs, and get fresh water in. All 6 tubs show it, this one is the worse. The single strand roots are healthy and the plants themselves look good but the denser root mass not so hot.

Dude it looks to me that the root maybe getting submerged, the water level looks too high. You want it a couple inches below the net pot.

I would look a brewing a tea, get all light leaks sorted. Also keep res temps low.

It was setup that way originally. I raised the water level to keep the damaged root in the chlorine to try and clean it up. Right now I want to try and see if I can run sterile, I know bennies is way more popular in the forum I just don't have time to maintain it. I work 65+ hours a week and am renovating our house. I'm going to pull some spare clones and try 3 diff setups for sterile, one with bleach one peroxide and one quat. ammonia. I havent found any good info on running quat. If I keep the dwc setup I'm going to switch over to large single rez instead of small buckets and add UV sterilization too.
