Dr. Recommendation but no card?

Hey all,
Last weekend I went out and got my eval and received a Dr. recommendation. My question is how do I actually go about getting the state card? I am in Santa Clara County and wanted to get the card so it keeps me a bit more "legit" Paranoia, perhaps but rather not give the police any excuses. Any info would be helpful.

Here in San Diego I received mine from my doctor, it was an extra $20 which from the ads that I have seen is fairly common. Otherwise you have to go to the county health department I believe to get the card. I would suggest calling the doctors office that gave you the script and see what they suggest for your area.

Peace out :weed:

I just went through this, MedicatedGhost, and decided to get the card. You don't really NEED it. I got it for the same reason you did. From what they tell me at the San Diego County offices, if a cop catches you with pot and you have a recommendation. if he's friendly, he may call the number of the recommendation and if he gets verification, let you go right then. if he's neutral or unfriendly, he can just as easily take you in to the station, put you in a holding cell and take his time getting it verified.

I didn't want even that risk, so I got the card, because if you show that to a cop, he HAS to call and verify. The card has your pic on it but not your name just a number, and when the cop calls, they give that number, and the result comes back 'valid' or 'invalid'. If it's 'valid' and you weren't doing anything illegal, he has to let you go. Unfortunately, it's 170/yr (at least here in SD) and you STILL have to have a doc's recommend. Most people just stick with the doctor's note.

Hey there Chemoboy, I just got my MMC and the total cost was 70, but I found an ad in The Reader with a coupon. Be sure when you go again to check it :bigjoint:

As always peace out :weed:

Dude, I think you're not talking about the MMIC. It's always the same price because it's a government fee thing. You can get a medical marijuana 'card' that's essentially worthless from various doctors, but that's a doctor's recommendation -- it's not even valid unless you also have the stamped paper with the doctor's recommendation (I think this person would benefit from marijuana). The only CARD that helps is the actual MMIC from the county. Or am I missing something?

True! the cards you get from drs are just that, a card nothin else. As a matter of fact there not even as good as your actual rec ( Stamped, paper) some clubs dont even let you in w/o the official paper. Cops dont care for those either, they can still take your shit. Now with the state card issued by your county health dept, that has pull. To my understanding cops cant even touch your budz if you have a state card as long as your abiding by all laws. Each county charges different prices for example, here in monterey county you can get it for 118 and 59 if youre on medi-cal, I heard somewhere down south you can get them for like 40 and i think i just read that in santa clara county its like 170. To top it off you cant shop around, because you have to get it at the county you reside in. Hope that helps
