Dorm Fridge Grow #2

Man that fridge looks much better than mine last year haha I used one half the size, it was terrible. Also liking the hydro, it all looks very legit. Any way you could get those plants closer to the lights though? You could probably get 4 times as many useful lumens giving you squatter, bushier, and faster growing plants. Just a thought, looking real good though man

Howdy Maxed!!

Seeing how important is your pH and ppm's in hydro, one can only think that's really important with soil too!!
Loving your babies!!

Cheers!

Found this when I was doing my water check...

0301141951.jpg

I've seen several charts here and there, but hoping someone here in the Stealth and Micro had seen this problem before. If the mods see fit please move if needed. It was an early leaf, second or third node on the Critical plant. The rest of them look okay. PPM's were @ 350 and pH 5.81.
Doctor, Doctor please help me here

I want to do one in a large fridge one day. Freezer compartment for starting seeds or clones, lower section for blooming. Gutting the back and getting the airflow right seems to be the challenge. I would DWC for sure, and if you had 2 to work with.... never buying weed would be great. It would put a hurt on the cartel.
ive done that before the problem with that was people would wonder why i had 2 fridges lol what i did for the exhaust was cut a piece of 3/4 inch plywood and slid it in place of the freezer floor. the freezer had a port in the back middle of the floor for the cold air to circulate down to the fridge part i just cut a hole in the center of the plywood to act as a light baffle and used some screen door material to block the rest of the light leaks.i cut intake holes in the back wall at the bottom and put a 50cfm bath vent fan in the top chamber to pull the air all the way through the fridge. i put the florescent tube in the top for vegging and the bottom had a 150w hps. i had a real heat problem though because the hps wasnt vented at all,and had the ballast inside the light case which caused me to get a very poor harvest. if i was going to do it again id definitly vent the light and make the ballast remote, or put some led's in there instead.

you have to be carefull when your tearing the parts out of it though you can get fined for exhausting freon in some parts you have to get it evacuated. i didnt..lol i just cut the tubes and let it out in the alley noone saw me. but i found that there is copper tubing all inside the walls of the fridge i had to pull some of it out but was impossible to get it all out.so i just left it in there and didnt seem to cause a problem. only got snagged a little when i cut the intake holes with a hole saw.

i had an ebb and flow system which i was familiar with at the time, but since i found DWC i will never go back lol i love it and recommend it for anyone who wants a cheap simple and effective hydro setup. and for 3-4 weeks after my harvest the cartels are hating me too for not giving them any money haha

Well it was a thought. I may take it to work and cut it up and then use some hemp string to make squares. That way at the end of the grow you can just snip it for easy removal.
I just couldn't give up on this rack. Got hazed and broke out the Dremel. This is what I ended up with.

0302140852.jpg

Got it laying on the laptop and wasn't sure it would show up. I removed some of the wire which gave it more room. I used some waxed thread for the long runs. Holes are about 2" square or 50.8mm. Then another light bulb went off, it can double as a drying rack.
Seems like all your great ideas happen when you are :joint::confused:

I'd gut the insulation if I was you, IME gutting out the insulation will help your temps even out greatly! lookin good though

Gutting the insulation could be trouble that is WTF was I thinking. Getting the right airflow in relation to the heat that is given off, also taking in consideration the humidity, not to mention the skill level of the grower, it's all a crap-shoot. That insulation may provide you a reasonable amount of time if you lost power. Keep it simple, if you can get it to work just do it. If it works for you refine and hone by the mistakes you made. After seeing some of the buds that were grown in a PC case, anything is possible. Thanks for lookin' in. May all your buds be fat & frosty.

It has been 28 days since the germinated seeds were put in the box. This 4 weeks has been a tad smoother than the 4 weeks on the first grow. Parameters for the water today were outstanding, pH 5.76 and ppm's were down from 350 on 26 Feb and today was 215. No other leaves had yellowing on the tips. I've been topping off with pH'ed distilled H2O On to the photos....

0224141837.jpg The Haze plant 24 Feb. 0303141824.jpg 1 week later... Oh Yeah!!

0224141837a.jpg The Critical plant 24 Feb. 0303141824a.jpg 1 week later....

I put the SCROG rack in to night.

The lights are on a rack and the scrog rack is under it in this photo.

Another comparison photo
0224141836a.jpg And 1 week later....0303141823b.jpg

One more photo of the "Fridge"

0303141833.jpg The oscillating fan is mounted to the door and 3 cups of water that are a pH of 5.7 This is what I use for my humidity control and top off water. The level in the res seems to drop about 16 oz. in a 24 hr time period.

Smoke a big hog leg and drink a cold beer.

i really like your setup, ive always wanted to try one of those mini fridges ever since i was a kid. super stealthy and small enough to move around without too much hassle. i like how you got your lights mounted thats pretty slick, and got to give props for the DWC love love love the method, lol which reminds me i need to cover my container. i like the covers you got over the pots, it looks like that material that goes under a christmas tree, that looks like snow, where did you find those? and will you be flowering with the cfls as well?

I must say I was quite skeptical about this box at first but.... after seeing your results it looks great!
Thanks for the kudos there friend. Tried to use some of the methods I've read about here in this forum. I have visited several other forums but this site seems to fit my eye. I have learned quite a bit on growing, by just taking the time to read some of the post. Photos of the Heroes and the Zeros are a great reference for those who take the time to search for the answers.

Just wanted to let you know that the white discs are filter material that is used for an airbrush cleaning filter. You could use a coffee filter. I used what I had on hand. I had thought about .005 styrene plastic sheet when I found that extra filter.
Here is the description http://www.testors.com/product/136959/9316/_/Cleaning_Station_Filters

I can't or don't remember if that is legal or not, posting a link, them damn stoners can't remember shit. If you have access to filter material or an absorbent material pads that is the ticket

Have you used this box before or first run? With those cfl's you might not want to veg for too much longer. Dont forget about your stretch when you initiate flower. Im subbed tho can't wait to see in a couple weeks!

This is the second run for the fridge. These are 2 Auto-flowers from Royal Queen Seeds, so the are going to flower on their own. Now maybe we both will learn on this grow. The first run was a test run with bag seed.
