Don Scroggin's 250w MH/HPS cool tube rubbermaid grow + chamomile companion

Ok, so I ordered a 5 pack of Vision Jack Herer that came with one free CH9 Super Haze bean, so that's what I'm working with.

I germinated the remaining 4 JH seeds for 48 hours in a medicine bottle 1/2 full of water. The first JH seed I tried to germ was in the water for 24 hours but the tap root never really came out so I thought another day might do better about the tap root growth. I didn't plan on planting the Super Haze just yet, but I didn't want to sit around on just one seed so I went ahead and threw it into the water after 24 hours, so it only received 24 hours of soaking.

After the 48 hours I planted all 5 seeds in Solo cups of FF Light Warrior and put them in my DIY mother box with about 200w of 5000k CFL's. They all got planted on 3/30. The JH #1 and #2 both popped out of the soil on 4/1 and the Super Haze popped on 4/2.

On 4/4 I put all 5 cups under the MH at about 13-14 inches. The girls are loving it, and are growing much quicker than under the CFL's (duh). I currently have temps from 77-84f with a 4" inline fan. I wasn't sure how hot the HIDs would get in a Rubbermaid so I'm really happy with how it's all working out.

2 of the JH seeds never popped and I just got rid of them tonight. I am going to use one of these 3 plants as a mother and lst the remaining 2 to go for a solid yield.

I am planting my chamomile tonight to transplant into the 2 gal. Smart Pots with the 2 plants that I am going to harvest. I will be using FFoF in the smart pots. The Chamomile is supposed to increase the oil and resin production of the cannabis and help it grow and taste better also. How cool is that? It's called companion planting, check it out! We will see how it all turns out!

I will be posting pics of the seedlings and my setup in a couple of hours.

Here is the 2x45 gallon stacked tubs with 4" inline setup where the magic is happening.


JH#2 popped first and is growing the fastest and is def the biggest, so it may be my mother. Vigorous little thing.


Now, the Super Haze may actually be another Jack but when it popped the seed looked like the Haze seed I germed. Onlytime will tell.


Last but not least is my JH#1. This one had to be uprooted as a seedling and put BACK in the water to be revived and it WORKED. Its a happy moment watching her grow, no matter how slow Hopefully the chamomile will(smith) revive her.

Time to get busy planting my chamomile. I'll post an update when I finish.

I planted my chamomile last night, but theres not a lot to see. Filled 2 Solo cups half full of Light Warrior, watered them, sprinkled a pinch of German Chamomile seeds on top of the soil, scratched the surface a little and then packed down the soil with my fingers. I went ahead and put the cups in a plastic bag and sat them under the light (they need light to germinate). Now we wait for sprouts!

Ok bad fudging news. I'm pretty sure I caught site of a couple symphilids, which would explain why JH#1's oval leaves yellowed and dried up. And why there is starting to be yellow tips on its serated set :l I gave them all a solid flooding to try to get them to come to the surface to see what I'm dealing with but I only saw one after the watering...fingers crossed I guess, but I'm broke at the moment and caht really do anything about pests if they appear so I'm feeling very vulnerable.

I lowered my lights from around 14" down to 9" and have a fan right on the plants. Basically just doing whatever I can at this point. I'll upload a few pics.

Ok so the plants are looking good! Still got my eye out for those pesky little symphilids (found one tonight on the super haze). There is new growth that seems unaffected so I'm hopeful.

JH#1 that had its little oval leaves yellowed and crumbled :\ not exactly sure why...hopefully its ok. The new growth seems unaffected so fingers crossed!



And after only 2 days, the chamomile has started to sprout!Im gonna have to thin the heard but you can see the sprouts sprinkled throughout the soil.

Update!

Its now day four of week 2 under the MH, so day number 11.

I transplanted the JH#2 into a 2 gal. Smart pot of what is mainly FF Ocean Forest. It was supposed to have more Light Warrior than it does but I dumped the LW in first and then poured in too much FFOF so it was hard to try to mix up without throwing dirt all over the floor. So now I guess we see what happens when a seedling is put into basically uncut Ocean Forest. Call it an experiment haha. It is looking good though!

The Super Haze is also looking pretty good! (This is the last disclaimer for calling it super haze when it may be another jack lol, we will find out eventually). I transplanted it to another solo cup with about 3-4 inches of FF Ocean Forest to give it some food. Once it grows a bit I will put it in a 2 gallon smart pot also.




Then the JH#1 that I also transplanted into about 4" of Ocean Forest. It will also go in a 2 gal pot after a bit. The leaf tips are a little yellow as you can see, I think its just hungry or overwatered, but I guess we'll find out. I havent seen any creepy crawlies out and about so I am hopeful there!


I left the Chamomile in the plastic bag too long and it started to grow a little fungi so I tossed them before it got to the plants. Ill probably plant some closer to flower and put it in with the girls. Hopefully it will crank up the oil/resin production!

Day 5 of week 3 pics.

Ill start with the fun stuff lol.

The mom plant that isn't going to be a mom plant anymore lol, because I want a harvest and can sit through another seed germination period when I have acouple zips to work with I digress.

I have her lst'd at almost 90degrees. Ill get her down a little more as she gets taller. I didnt get a pic (stoned) of the wreath rack im using to hook my wire to, but I found it at world market and thought it looked perfect and it works about like I hoped but I havent had to take it out to water it yet either :/ Anyway here are 2 more pics of her.

On to the Super Haze that is just being difficult at the moment. It looked SO good and opened up a few days ago, then went super droopy so right, it needs water, so I water it and it has stayed really droopy, but let me check it real quick...Ok checked it and its kinda been slowly opening up it looks like. Here she is

So there you see it. Hmmm

And this little one I have decided wont fit in my cab with two other lst'ed plants, nor do I need to try, so I have other plans for her...

Also, I got my two gallon smarties for both of the plants that are still in Solo cups. Ill probably transplant the super haze in the next 1-3 days, might let it dry out first a bit (just watered today).

That's about it for the time being, will probably put them into flower at the end of week four.

Day 5 week 5 veg lol. Been a while since ive updated. Man, these things have been vegging for a whiiile now. Ill tell you about each plant individually. Here we go.

JH #2 is looking good. Its the biggest I got. Keep tying her down as she grows and also fimmed her a couple days ago. Im gonna put em all into flower as soon as she recovers.

Now for the Super Haze. I fimmed her about a week ago and her tops have already recovered and look great so its all ago as soon as the other girl recovers.


And then theres the little one that hasnt been growing so well all along and has spots on its leaves and things of that nature do idk...I think im gonna let my brother harvest it and just keep it under cfls in veg when I flip the others to flower.

Put my girls into their 24 hour dark period at 7am so the lights will come back on in about 14 hours. I took out the small girl and put her in the mother room. Gonna try to pull some clones in a few months. Ill put up some pics after bit. Peace!

Day 1 Week 2 flower

I'm trippin out these days watchin the grass grow. I ran my MH light for the first week of flower to see what it would do for my stretch. They're really starting to show their budsites and that's getting me jazzed! Anyway, here are some pics.

Here is the JH yesterday after a week of 12/12 under MH.

And then this morning right after light switch to hps. I also fed them yesterday. 4 tblspoons of big bloom, 2 teaspoons of pure blend grow original, and started with 1 teaspoon of Tiger Bloom (for my future reference).

And the Super Haze.

Just checked the distance of my light and it is at 4" whoaaa. Thats 75k lumens according to that hps chart thats floating around. Thats pointless right? Or maybe even too much?? The sun is 10k psf, hmm. Lolol

Day 1 Week 3 flower update

I went ahead and gave the plants the full dose(3 teaspoons) of tiger bloom this round with 4 tablespoons of big bloom. I added a dash of pure blend grow also.

I knew I shouldn't have said anything like "man, this grow is going so smoothly!" But I knocked on wood for good measure! That night I went out to buy some bananas and while I was gone my A.C. plug in caught on fire!! Thank god my brother was home! He put out the fire and everything is cool, except now its 85 degrees during the day in the room where my box is. Man...we'll see how it plays out!

Day 3 week 5

Its been a while since ive posted. Ive fed twice since the last post. The week four feeding was 3 teaspoons of tiger bloom and the week five feeding was 4 teaspoons. Both feeds were 4tbl spoons of big bloom with a shot of pure grow original.

Since the air conditioner caught on fire it has been unplugged so the grow room gets up to 85f during the day, probably 87ish in the box. Seems to have good air flow though and they look happy.

Ill post the pics in a new post. This one is messing up on me.
