Does tap root length at selection for planting determine sex?

Had 20 germinated seeds in a paper towel and only needed 12 so I selected the longest healthiest and ended up with 9/12 male!
Did I do that?:wall:
I know that growing tall is a sign of sex but didn't think that germination vigor was a factor. :?:

I dont think you're at fault. If things like that were actually a reliable way of telling sex, there would be no reason for the lab services that can determine sex of a seedling.

In my experience, the males are often the most vigorous but not always. I number my seeds when I transplant them, in order of vigor (biggest sprout or first to pop is #1, second most is #2 and so on.) I tend to find my males in the “top of the order” more often than not, but my last run, my #1 labeled plant was female, showed first, and yielded the most - just a very vigorous girl overall. I’ve also recently gotten an 11 male 4 female seed pop too. Nature doesn't always cooperate, so backups and extras are important for that reason.
