Does A Carbon Filter Remove 100% Smell

Use a decent filter plus ona gel in the room.

yea a good idea ..

my room allways have a slightly under presure .. and is air tight .. so all air from my room will pass my carbon filter and I cant smell any thing atall ..

in Veg I had em out in my other room .. and in the end (5-6 week) I could begin to smell em when I came home .. just before I moved them in to flower (week 7) they did smell a lot ..

other day my mom came by (no worry Im 38 and she knows all about it as she is a 68`r)
but I had my curtan open for 5 minuts as I was working in ther .. and she could smell it a bit out in the hall way when she came in ..

I reccon ona gel or a small Ozon machine would have cleard that ..

but I think best way under some stairs in a small room with old/stald air and a a few Ppl. smokeing out side .. with basement air .. would be to make a tube or two runn outdoors if posible .. cant you cut some holes in your basement and run some tubeings .. with a ventilation to pull the old/smelly air out ..

also .. about smokeing .. my plants dont seems to mind .. unless its weed .. then they get realy stress out ..

Home made Ona gel is simple.

Water absorbing crystals - commonly used for flower arranging etc etc.
Polysorbate 20 - To emulsify oil and water
Essential oils (few drops) - For Smell

I have a DIY Ona bucket/exhaust with a OG starting to stink.

I mix 1 1/2 cup soil moist in 5 gallon bucket add 30 oz water and 3/4th cup ona concentrate when I'm late in flowering makes my place smell like fresh linen had people compliment how nice my house smelled :bigjoint:

Another tip is to seal up any hoods with duct/gorilla tape. This ensures maximum air is passing through the. filter.

I've had my wife walk into the room where my tent is and she couldn't smell it. Once I unzip the tent some smell can linger out further than I would like but I make sure I don't do need to do anything to her before anyone comes over. I'm using a mountain air carbon filter.

A carbon filter will only get rid of 100% smell when you have adequate ventillation, negative air pressure at all times and the correct size filter for your ventillation system. Also some cheaper carbon filters are not good enough to work as they should so buy a good one to be safe.

My plants have not been flowered yet, but I have a 100% smell proof grow so far. That is atleast until the tents are opened and then it stinks. The smell lingers for a while after the tents are closed up again, so you may want some additional backup like ona gel to get rid of the residual smells quicker.
Best response on the whole thread!

Mountain air filter (4"x16" clears a 4'x2' with no smell at all)

Yes a carbon filter will get rid of 100% smell if done correctly. I've used the really expensive ones, and the cheap ones from amazon. The cheap ones are not as clean as the more expensive ones (charcoal dust) are but they have no problem filtering the smell from my grow in the basement. I use three large can filters/fans that dump air outside the house. You can't smell anything with your face in the exit ducting.

My phresh filter and 6" can fan max remove all odors.... With negative pressure and fan running 24/7. If I shut fan off for even 10 min the smell starts leaking out. The only filters I can vouch for are phresh though, that was my first and it worked so I stuck with that brand

If you want 100% you must have a bigger fan with the filter on it. So if you run a 8 inch fan in you must run a 10 inch out with the filter

This doesn't make sense... You said you must have a bigger fan w filter on it then you say to run a 10" filter w 8" fan. I've had absolutely no problems running a 6"filter on 6" fan. It's all about matching cfm on the combo

I use a can lite filter in my flower chamber, a homemade carbon filter with kitty crystals in my veg chamber, I exhaust all of these through ducting to another kitty crystal scrubber outside the box, and inject ozone into the duct run. I then exhaust the ambient room to the outside with a Panasonic Whisper bath exhaust fan at 110 CFM. I grow the stinkiest loudest stuff I can get my hands on, and have people in the next room and around the grow constantly, and noone can smell or hear a damn thing. The ozone helps maximize the life of the scrubbing media, and acts as a backup as well.
It pays to be very detailed with respect to your ventilation and odor control. Ventilation is the key to maintaining an optimal environment, and an optimal environment is the key to yield and quality. Jail is not an optimal environment, so I always over build when it comes to odor control.

Stay Frosty my Friends!

So when I do my 4x4 or 5x5in the former master bath now large ass closet. I plan on using a phresh filter and possibly a inline ozone gen along the way. I'll probably have to get someone to come in and put a stronger bathroom fan in up top. But I'm the worrying type. I overthink everything. I'm in the middle of nowhere and live in a mobile home I own. About 100 feet from me is some cluster mailboxes but I have a pumphouse and pine tree kind of playing blocker. Any tips?

You can NEVER overthink or overbuild odor control. The only acceptable odor is no odor, so plan on nothing less than what it will take to get you there. Having blown out more than one mobile home, if you want to provide some detailed specs, I will gladly provide an idea of what I think you should be looking at. Stay Safe

Spot on. Carbon filters can if properly sized and the room is properly built.

If you have the correct size filter for the room and fan then yes.
I would also have Ona gel in there just for that extra.
Also Carbon smells like carbon. Just be aware of that as when I fist started growing I was getting an odd smell, not Cannabis but ood, Turned out it was just fresh carbon smell.

Ozone Is bad for your plants, just keep that in mind for the guys that say they have ozone as backup. Most carbon filters will work fine, some of the really cheap ones will still smell. And your fan cfm has to be equally to or less than the rated cfm of the filter..
Keep Ozone on a timer OUTSIDE of where the plants are.
