I fear dying, lonely, without the love of my family. My mum left my dad 30 yrs ago, in anger he burned our house down, injuring an elderly neighbour. After serving 8yrs he came out and struggled to rebuild his life. 6yrs ago (whilst I was serving my life sentence) he was found dead in the stairwell of a pokey bedsit he'd been there for weeks. He never even knew how much he was loved.

Im not scared!
I just find it kinda upsetting that its potentially the complete end like going blind deaf and retarded all at the same time being paralyzed.
Maybe this upsetting feeling is because I feel there will always be infinite education to learn and science/technology to create and play with
it'll be tits itself when our species has a global average life expectancy of 120..

I don't know if FEAR is the right word for me at least. I do contemplate what may or may not be there when I draw my last breath and close my eyes for the last time. I can only hope that I'm allowed to pass in the presence of my family. whatever there is there's one thing for sure. You can't do a damn thing about it !

While I enjoy my life for the most part, there's something comforting to me about the peace that replaces your once animated body and not having pain, illness or misery ever again. Like Oldtimer said, not a damn thing you can do about it anyways, we all have an expiration date.

Apparently I do, otherwise it would be much easier to rationalize suicide. Religious indoctrination from infancy has embedded some questions in my head I'm not really willing to test the theory of, although I don't really believe in them, the "what if" factor is still there. I am inclined to believe we are all just energy the will be recycled.

Fear is supposed to motivate you to either do something to mitigate the outcome, or to submit. It is not useful when dealing w/ death. Reincarnation is a fun idea. If it is part of reality, I'm certain it is nothing like what anyone can imagine. Can you imagine what an acid trip will be like? That only lasts hours. Eternity might be more difficult to imagine.

I don't think most of us actually fear death as much as we fear the process of dying, as it is likely to be uncomfortable at best, and painful at worst. I'm greedy for life and I'd choose to live for thousands of years if I could in a relatively healthy body, and I welcome all medical advances toward that end. I don't relish the thought of the discomfort of dying, but I do not fear being dead. The two greatest quotes that have helped me with this are -

i died for about 10 seconds in an abulance.
it was peaceful and wierd , like it was allways been like this.
and i could see and hear EVERYTHING!!
the driver had to pull over to help the guy in the back with me ...... But i could see her get out of the ambulance and walk around the front to the side door yo help.me in the back ......very erie but understood .... Strange but true
i heard the guy say " he's gone" and i was like " no im not " and woke up ...lol
it was peaceful and wierd , like it was allways been like this.
and i could see and hear EVERYTHING!!

Had a very similar experience when i was around 12, building about 30ft from me got hit with lightning, i was standing in a covered entrance way watching the storm I saw a flash and then i was standing in the road, about 15ft away, looking around, and i could see myself on the ground in the entrance way. As i walked over to my body, i came back to consciousnesses and was laying on the ground, but i knew i was just standing over there>>> One of a handful of incidents that happened in my early teens that shaped my thoughts about well, everything..i died for about 10 seconds in an abulance.
