Do you count flowering from 12/12 switch or when you see pistil hairs?

Yes that is the "pre-flower" stage

My super silver haze took about 18 days to show first pistils after change to 12/12. If I count those 3 weeks as flowering time the time would be like 14-15 weeks.
It will be that long regardless but the actual bud growth(flowering) is not that long.
Green house seeds say strain is 10-11 weeks. 12 weeks only if you want the max terpene development.
The 10-11 weeks is pretty much right on for my grow if I don't include time before first pistils. My seeds aren't theirs but it's pretty much exact to their estimate.
So I'm just gonna go by what I've seen my self and that is on first sight start the counter. Photoperiod length is useful to know, it can help with planning and other shit but yes checking trichs are the best way to verify your in optimal harvest window

According to the from 12/12 camp a 8 week strain that takes 4 weeks to show flowers will go from first pistols to fully ripe buds in 4 weeks. But the same exact strain if showing in 1 week will take 7. Think about that

Also you can have preflowers before you go to 12/12, preflowers indicate maturity not just sex.
My haze wasn't mature which is why it took so long before preflowers showed. Next time I'll veg until they show then flip and start the counter from that point.

Environment and overall plant health can shorten, or lengthen, the duration of bloom from the onset of 12/12, to finish. For this reason, I feel it is imperitive to go by a set point, so that the information presented is easily recognizable as relative. For instance, grower A goes by day 1, growers B-D go by initial showing (2-14 days in), growers E-Z simply skip a week. With the vast discrepencies in this information, it is impossible to ascertain environmental factors and plant health. With a set point, the correct one (I might add), it is easy to see who's grow is exemplary, and who's is in need of a little "assistance", as well as where those deficiencies may be.

Another factor that is not a "given" is the duration of lights out. Some do 12 hours, some 24, 36, etc. So, it is imperitive to go by the initial day 12 hours of darkness.

The only set point that we all share is that at some point we expose them to 12 hours of darkness and at that point they begin to flower.

Anyone who says its from when you see hairs needs to contact some proper breeders, as every single one I emailed years ago told me its from when you flip to 12/12

do you consider the veg period from the moment you plant the seed? Because you're an idiot if you do. 1-2 weeks from seed is considered seedling stage. Flowering is the point when you begin to see flowers, hence flowering. When you switch the lights to 12/12 the plant doesn't instantly go, oh shit flowering time lets move bitches!

Bang on. I have been told this years ago. It amazes me idiots still count it from when hairs show. The period before it is still flowering.

And if your strain takes 2-3 weeks more than the recommendations its because your environment is not spot on. Period.

Yes, they do. If your plants are mature, healthy, in the proper environment, and exposed to 12/12 of proper lighting, they will immediately show you a physical expression of the onset of Flowering. After the initial 12/12, you should see yellowing at all of the "soon to be" bud sites. This yellows occurs as the plant draws available nutrients from localized areas to begin the development of flowers/"buds". 12/12 is literally the signal for "let's move bitches!".

LOL this thread is like 6 years old and still no consensus. IMO it's done when it's done and the breeder times are an estimate only. I also think (could be wrong) that some of the boosters etc. will prolong the flowering period. As for outdoors here it's when the first sign of bud rot starts, then yup you better get it done lol

The flowering time can best be determined from the person you bought the clone or seeds from. If they say count from the flip; then do that. If they say count from when you see pistils; then do that.

Flowering time from the breeder is where they like to harvest. It's best to take samples at different times, to determine the flowering time that you like best.

No. Plant begins to flower when it flips. If you wait for flowers, and go by a timeline, you'll have garbage bud. All brown and gross.

You are also hitting them with the wrong dose of nutes as well if you don't go from the flip.

i count as soon as put in 11\13 or 12\12. i use grow food first week then switch to bloom food right before pistols show..

I honestly have only seen the "Flowering time. 60 days" never when to start it, just always assumed from flip and that's how I've done it but I don't typically count the days really any more. I have to go here to look at times and plant pics I post lol

I forget to write down start dates sometimes. I just use a 100x scope.
