I really like eddibles. Was in CO last winter and tried cookies AWSOME!! but I can see where they could really wreck you if youre not paying attention. Like being a reporter and eating a whole candy bar with 16 doses in it all at once!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im waiting for my harvest in about 2 mo and have an oz of bud. I was thinking of making coconut oil with it.

Now im wondering if I should do some shake keif and keep a few buds to smoke and use the rest to make c oil and budder for cooking edibles. My question is for eddibles should i make both budder and oil or should i focus on just one . This is my first time making either. Cconut oil sounds like its very easy to make, clean tasting and bio available. If I just make that will i wish i also had budder?

A related question is after its made is there anything I can use the extracted weed for, perhaps another run or smoke (ugh I think).

High StealthKing :) You can make either butter or coconut oil and use them the same in your recipe. As long as it doesn't call for say, veggie or canola oil. That is not solid at room temp, and acts different in some recipes. It really depends on your tastes and health concerns as to butter or coconut oil. Coconut oil is a healthy fat, butter is so not. Coconut oil costs more. If I make edibles for myself, I make them with coconut oil.
On the large scale, I use butter.

for your last question...I have used the leftover material from butter and used it to make medicated milk with. I don't know that I would use the coconut oil leftovers though.

Thanks for the knowledge. Its for brownies and cookies, possibly some chocolate so I think ill go with the coconut oil. Just gotta be sure I dont mix them up with my munchies stuff :)

i like eating pot. i didn't like making a big batch of brownies/cookies and trying to figure out a correct dosage, so i'd make a couple pop and fresh cookies or fire crackers at a time. i'm real lazy though and have found that instead of cooking with canna coconut oil or butter, i just make canna coconut oil, using a magical butter machine 2, and put it into capsules. when i get in the mood, i pop a few.

i know exactly how much i'm taking each time. i can dial it up or down with one capsule. eating too much is no fun.

For my butter, I use 150 grams of popcorn trim to 8 sticks of butter. Given an average of 15% thc in the working product, this gives me roughly 150 mg cookies. 24 to the batch using 1 cup of butter, or 12 large brownies/lemon bars etc at 300 mg. You could certainly do the same with the coconut oil and it will be much healthier ;)

I always dry ice hash my working product first. I use the hash to make my coconut hash oil, and the leftover trim, already broke down for me, gets turned into my butter/oil...two for one ;)

How do you make medicated milk and is there much THC left after extraction?

I just take the stuff that has been strained out and simmer it in milk or half and half - do NOT forget about it and walk away lol...you will come back to a huge mess. I simmer for anywhere from half an hour to an hour, then strain as you would your butter. When the milk gets cold in the fridge, any remaining butter will solidify on the top. As far as how much THC is left in after the butter extraction, I don't know. But I made some green chili mac and cheese with the milk, and it kicked several asses ;)

I tried a conversion calculator and got 28.35 g per oz. Does that sound right to you? Im still trying to figure out the numbers.
White Widow has a 21% THC content so I was going to use a guestimate of a bit less, say 15% available THC. How do I calculate how much THC for 1/2 an oz of material when extracted in say 1 lb of butter or whatever amount I should use and then based on oz or cups of butter or oil equivalent how many mg per finished cookie.

I had some real kick ass chocolate chip cookies in CO labled at 100mg and they said to divide that into 10 doses which proved to be quite accurate.

I know I need to carefully determine my reaction to each batch but I dont want to end up with a low THC content eating one 10th of a cookie and keep waiting for something to kick in or have it be way stronger than I guessed and end up as a puddle on the floor because I misjudged and ate a whole cookie when I should have eaten one 10th :) Ill be using bud that I dry shake for keif first and then extract. The material will be decarbed first.

Thank you for sharing your experience

mmk...first off, numbers are sooo not my thing. I used to measure my stuff in doses, like the stuff you got in CO. My Apple Gooey Cakes are 10 doses. You can cut it into 10 bites to medicate by the hour and stay nice all day. But most places go by the 100 mg etc.

I think the easiest way to do it is by the gram. So you have 1/2 oz, or 14 grams to work with. Is it bud or is it trim/popcorn? 1oz bud = roughly 4 oz trim by potency. So 1 gram = 1000 mg. 14 grams material = 14,000 mg. this is the figure you multiply your thc percentage by. So estimating a 15% thc potency...14,000x.15 =2100. Then for 1 lb of butter, or 2 cups/16 oz, you would have roughly 1050 mg per cup of butter/oil.

If you are using hash, the 'average' potency is about 30% thc.

Not sure if that is what you were looking for. Hope it helps
