do i need closed loop to remove mystery oil?

Mystery oil is best removed before extraction, because removing it afterwards is destructive to the extract.

To my best knowledge you would use a closed loop system to remove mystery oil. I don't think you would find something cheaper to remove it if that's what you were asking. Although it doesn't have to be some extremely expensive setup if you're just using it to remove the mystery oil.

are there any cheaper than the mini-extractor-45g from bestvaluevacs? (cant post links) and can i use it with a 3 cfm pump? is 350ml butane for 45g weed enough?

ASSuming a three volume flood I would SWAG (scientific wild ass guess) about: (45gm/4.1 gm) X 3 X 80% X (.0361/lb/in3 X .601sg) X 454gm = 259 grams LPG

I infer 3 cfm refers to the vacuum pump used to evacuate the system before running.

If you recover actively, you will also need a recovery pump. I typically run the tank bath at 70F with an 85F max and cease at zero gauge before pulling a vacuum to avoid the pentane with a boiling point around 100F.

Fractionally distilling passively will require some very low temperatures on the recovery vessel, if you are to keep the hot tank under 85F.
