Amazing selection, comprehensive data sheets, certifications...certainly looks promising.

I don't know what to think about the similarity with MW drivers. Are they just copycats? But they offer some drivers MW doesn't...don't know.

Anyway, I've emailed them and hopefully they'll get back to me.

Damn that would have been perfect for me, 13 cxa3070 running at 450ma, shame there is a 50pc minimum order, i would only need 2 :cry:

I really don't know what's going on. I've just found another driver with the exact same specs and case as MW. Even the data sheet looks very similar...

Can I run one of these of with a phone charger? How is the amps of the charger relevant to this? Other things to watch out for?

I'm planning to run two LedEngin 740nm 5W leds.
Yes it could be done, you might want to use an adapter 7.5V or higher. Normally I would use an AC DC constant current driver like this which would get you about 600mA and ~70% efficiency.

I suppose if you had, say, six COBs hooked up to a driver and each COB pulled 30W, while the driver supplied a potential range of 160~200VDC and one day a wire undid itself so that only five COBs were pulling from this driver. This would mean that the driver was supplying under its suggested range. Does this mean that each of the five COBs is handling an additional 2VDC or does the driver adjust and supply the 150VDC?

Why I can't see this being a good thing for either the driver, COBs, or both, is it considered safe?

@SupraSPL That driver looks very good and preferable to the one I posted, BUT the two LedEngins will on
ly draw 2.25V each at 660mA, and the driver is rated from 5-12V... Won't that be a problem?

AP, if you removed a COB from the string, the driver would adjust automatically. But if a wire undid itself the string would just shut down. Worth mentioning though, if an LED is string is "flickery" the driver can burn the entire string, especially if it is very low in the drivers voltage range. So good solid connections at critical at all times when the driver is powered on. I killed a brand new CXA3070 AB by experimenting with an HLG-185H-1050B. I accidentally left the driver powered on when re-connecting the COB. That driver is 190V max so must be the voltage surged somehow and damaged the COB. The COB still works but with severely reduced output. Now it is on display in the COB graveyard.

8/10, you are right that is low on the voltage range but I expect it will still work OK. I recently tested a 3X3W driver that may have a similar design:

@3.2V 600mA 57%
@3.5V 624mA 58%
@6.2V 620mA 77%
@9.3V 611mA 81%
@13V 600mA 81%
@17.34V 578mA 83.3%

Say an individual has a driver that powers a Vero and the power line from the driver to the COB utilizes a Pico EZ-Mate. What would your thoughts be if that individual unplugged the EZ-Mate from the COB while the driver was powered on? What if he were to reattach it, with power from driver remaining alive?

It might survive being reconnected if you make a quick sure connection. I have done that many times (with a 40V driver) although I do not recommend it. I think the trouble starts when working with the high voltage drivers.

I've done it a few times with the PLD-25-700 series. "Flickering" has occurred almost every time. Handling those Picos take a little time mastering if ya know what I mean ;-).

I never was shocked either by detaching the EZ-Mates with power alive, which I still consider a possibility.

Yes that would work, you can run up to 3 CXA3070s per driver. If you go with the HLG-185H-C1050A you can run up to 5 CXA3070s at 1150mA.
Do you get the Vf for this calculation from the Cree CXA3070 data sheet graph or do you have another source?

I was under the impression it was the sum of the Vf in a series that would determine the necessary driver. @ 1400mA and at 1050mA the CXA will have around 37 and 38 Vf respectively(interpreted from data sheet graph). The HLG 185 will have out put (from data sheet) of 132V @ 1.4A and 176V @ 1.05A.

So @ 1.4A we have 132V/38V/COB= 3.47 COB or 3 max

and @ 1.05A there is 176V/37V/COB= 4.76 COB and we round up? Isn't the drivers output capped? What am I missing?

Sorry to be so ignorant. I have no formal training in electricity and I am just begining to understand this. Thanks

Not your fault, there seems to be a problem with the voltage range data on one of the suppliers sites, I forget which one. The actual numbers are 143V for the HLG-185H-C1400 and 190V for the HLG-185H-C1050
