DiY LEDs - How to Power Them

That is a 2x2.5 Gorilla Grow tent. 5 square feet with a 7 foot ceiling. It holds 3 5 gallon bubble buckets(DWC).
I grow tall plants in it, Sativas.

The 120mm sinks are a bit hard to find, I think they're a very popular size.
I think you NEED the pot. That is a dimable driver and I think it needs the pot to complete the circuit.
Expert I am not.
It is a 10K pot. Common and available(Radio Shack, Amazon...)
Pot not necessary, it will run at full power without one. Also it's 100kohm pot isn't it?

Hi guys, i'm finally ready to start ordering.

Quick check to see if this will work:

5 CXB3590 + Ideal 50-2303CR + Ideal 50-2300AN + Reflector KB-D82-90RF
1 HLG-320H-C1750
5 pre drilled heatsinks Φ133mm*H70mm(for 50-60W)

I'm going to replace a 400W hps for a 1m² 5 plant scrogg.

My main concern is the heatsinks, are they enough?

You'll be running them fairly hot. Like 65 watts each.
That...is right there. Passive vs active.
Put a fan or 2 blowing on the heatsinks and be aggressive about air circulation.

I am doing the same basic thing, a 3x3 and an HPS 400w.
But I am going with 6 cobs at 50 watts each.

I read up on COBs about a year ago, and I came up with a system like this based on Supra's posts:
(4) CXB3590 3500K CD 36V
(1) HLG-185H-C1400-B
(4) LED reflector with ideal clips
(4) 133mm circular pin-style heatsinks.

I didn't order it last year due to cost. I can now source this for less than $300, so I'm about ready to buy it.

Is this still a good system for a 3'x3' grow space? Could I make better use of 4 COBs with a different power supply? I don't see HLG-185H mentioned much lately. I'm not overly concerned about efficiency, I'd rather have more PAR/$ invested.

4 on 1400 will give you about 211W and a ppfd of aprox.450.
I think thats a bit to low. The setup i posted is also for this area and has 5 on 1750mA wich nets me +- 680 ppfd for 338W

I always heard you needed about 700ppfd for a 3x3. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

Yes, you're probably right, and when I convert from metric my grow space is 2.1x2.6 ft. Anyway, I'm coming from 220W of PL-L so this will be a nice upgrade no matter what :)

I just wanted to hear if anyone had experience with running these at 1750, whether that is too hot for passive cooling and whatnot. I assume the COB life will be affected as well.

Actually, thank you!
I changed my order to 4 cob's instead of 5.

This is my order if you are interested:

4 CXB3590 3500K CD + Ideal 50-2303CR + Ideal 50-2300AN + Reflector KB-D82-90RF
1 HLG-240H-C1750B
4 Φ150mm*H70mm(for 60-70W) heatsinks
1 1-10V Dimmer for MW and Pairui driver

This gives me a total PPF of 548.7. That corresponds with a 400W hps, but you gain 137W at the wall!
A roi of 2 years makes this a no brainer!

@clonekarl : I have a friend running this exact setup. He also replaced his 400W hps Gavita.

Haha, you're welcome man :) I have the exact same parts, but I was just gonna slap on a pot meter. What's this Pairui, some sort of PWM?

The wait...
I am waiting too.
I have everything needed but 1 part, on order, so we wait.

I do have enough to start building.
This is where I am.
6 cree 3590(3500K)
6 holders, mounts and reflectors
6 140mm x 110mm passive heatsinks.
1 home made frame at 28 x28 inches
1 Meanwell 320/1400 driver, to drive at 54 watts x 6 cobs.

This setup will yield me about 34 watts per square foot. Not the best, but I have an 80 watt stick led light with deep red, IR, UV in it, so will supplement with it.

Hi guys. Doing the CLU046-1212 cobs to get started before upgrading to cxb. Anyone know what wattage the cobs go at on 400mA and 700mA?
