Hey Guys,

I wired up total 35 leds with hlg-80h-c700a, but when i tried to power them up within a second something is exploded or maybe all the leds. 28 of these leds are Cree XTE 1w-5w and 7 of them are cheaper 3w Leds. What could be went wrong and how am I going to find the mistake?

Well your driver can only hold 80-100watts. You put over 100 on it seems like.

Ohh, It does 90.3W, but it should be in range. Those no name leds require 3.8V at 700ma, while the cree leds 3.3V. So lets say 3.5V x 700ma = 2.45 Watt x 35 = 85.75Watt total. Am I misscalculating something?

I am refurbishing 3 burnt out blackstar 240's

each has 2 drivers 550 ma 130v 80% efficiency

could somebody tell me what they think is the bestbang for the buck

with either those vero 10's or 18's?

some will do 1000 lm some 2000 some 4000 some almost 6000

they range from 3.60 usd to 14 usd and lets assume i want to use the same cct

i just would like some help before i order

i guess the fewer chips the less work but numerous chips at lower wattage is not bad either

thanks

vero 18s at 550ma work out well, more efficient than vero10s.

But is the heatsink big enough for two vero18s ?.

thanks PB

much appreciated i will go vero18

also i was wrong its 510ma

since there are two drivers can i use two vero 18's per?

there are three fans on each panel and the metal plate i will mount them on which i guess is a heat sink

the original blackstar drew 165 w and used epi's

you might need to supplement the aluminum plate with some small heatsinks directly behind the Veros.

I have a bunch of 520 ma Chinese drivers, 70-85 V, probably very similar to yours. I run 2 vero18s on one. 28 Vf * 2 vero18s = 56 Vf total. Still has space for one more, but prefer not to run the generic Chinese drivers to the max. 2 verso 18s + a few 660 nm monos would be sweet.

I do caution you to test the drivers with a multimeter to make sure its running wha is on the label. I found one, that was actually running over 1Amp (supposed to be 580ma), but didn't test until after I blew out some monos.

thankyou PB i welcome the advice
i have 12 vero 18's on the way and was thinking two per 510ma 90-130v driver
drivers had worked hard for three years solid then half the circuit board burnt out on each of the three panels
still have a few chugging away for mom veg

I have a question? I usually use APV-12-5's. This time I'm building a light with 6 fans and I bought APV-12-12's. I notice you can only power 4 Arctics with it.

What should I do? Order APV-12-5s or hook up 6 fans to the 12v supply which is 1 amp max. Running the COBs at 50 watts. How much cooling at 5 volts?

Looks like I've been cooling one of my lights with COBs' at 75 watts and fans at 5v. Not good. It says max cooling capacity is 100 watts @12 volts.
It looks like there's an LPV-20-12. 12volts 1.67 amps.

My 140mm fans draw 0.5 amp of power. Do the cpu fans on the arctic all pull only 0.25? If so,1.67a on that LPV sounds just perfect.

Yup. .24 amps. 92mm fan. Oh man. I'm way too lazy to rebuild my other lights. According to my math, at 5 volts you only get about 42 watts of cooling? I run cobs' @ 50-75 watts each. Been doing this for over a year and I'm still learning/making mistakes.

they'll prob pull it, its against forum rules. in any case. $38 for used drivers is a tough sell when they are $41 new and $35 in 10 lots

Hi guys
Random question; when i started looking into diy led lights, the cxb3070 seemed the weapon of choice, with one driver per cob. Now it seems to have been overtaken by the 3590s, with most people seeming to run 4 or more per driver. Why were most people not running multiple 3070s off one driver but its ok with the 3590s?
Cheers
