Hey guys...gotta question. I was looking at the luminus cxm18-30 data sheet and its rated for 800mA. I want to go with a mean well driver naturally but having a hard time matching one up. Could i drive it at 700mA or would i be better of going with 1A? Not sure if my budget will allow the cxm27-30 but might just say f*ck it anyway. Just want to have a budgetary back-up.

How much watts do want to come out of it?

A CPU cooler could probably handle 1.4a I'd think...

But if you don't need that much power out of it 1a is a nice balance of heat and power. 700ma would be underpowered on a CPU cooler IMO

The problem with running it at 700mA x 35V is that 24.5W doesn't warrant the apline 11 heatsink. Also, the base of the apline 11 has a small footprint, and only allows 1 cob.

If you wanted to use cxm-18, I'd get a custom heatsink from heatsink usa that's meant to fit 2 of them, then get a driver that supports 70V at 700mA and put them in series. Then you have a 50W array with pretty good efficiency.

Well i plan to build one unit at a time. (Heatsink/fan, cob, driver) Then strap them together as i build them.

If you're going to use an artic 11, why not just use vero 29?

the vero 18 at 1A x 30V is 30W. Those artic 11's are beastly in the amount of heat they can dissipate. Even with the fan off, at 1.4A, they will only get uncomfortably hot, not blistering hot! or house burning hot. (50W at 1.4A, a little less than 40W at 1050mA)

Do i need to use a lense or could i get by without? Anyone recommend using the molex cables for the veros?

I'd worry about a lens after you've built a few..everyone's doing well without them

Don't know much about molex wires..sorry
