DIY led grow

Hey SDS - Do you use scrap parts to build your enclosures? I need to visit the scrap yard and see what is available there :)
ALWAYS!

1) I save poor miself some 'cheese' ...

2) Scrap-yards of electronics are pure ...paradise !!!
Look out for :
a) knobs -switches -rubber feet -enclosures - internal case metal parts - connectors-plugs -sockets-heatsinks (from tiny to huge ) -ferrites -vent perforated paneling.
b ) Small mobile/other chargers , pots (potentiometers) , push-buttons , leds ,fans ,wiring .
c ) diodes & resistors
d ) tantalum/ film/ceramic caps ,coils
e ) fuses and fuse holders ,emi filter "block-boards " ( usually cloce to AC socket )

And slowly ,by experience you will know what you will be picking up / salvaging

3) Old-fashioned "retro" (50's -60's -70's -80's electronics ) design details ,in a modern high-techonology equipment ...
What can be more cool than that ?
8)

Cheers.

I must have missed it along the way...but what strain are you growing @Positivity ? They look fantastic!
I just got these strains from a friend..blue dream and girl scout cookies. I rarely get a chance at these type since I'm not really connected into the scene. But when I do I am very grateful for people sharing...this blue dream is quickly becoming a personal favorite! The cookies smell really nice but the yield is way on the low end. Yield doesn't matter though..whatever smokes the best

Hey Positivity, I was wondering what LEDiL reflector you used for your light? I'm trying to find one that will work with the IDEAL connector, but want to be sure I get the right one.

Little bored so I'll post some random stuff..

Jiffy seed start mat or whatever it's called is pretty cool. Needed a few mods to work well but otherwise it's made my cloning a little easier. Stays wet nicely just from the contact on the root mat. The hydro/wick action is growing them past rooting

And a little future bud star. Finally cracking some seeds...first up will be dna chocolope. Showing some nice early structure

All grown under xml l2 3k and 5k. I leave the reds off otherwise they grow too fast..it's my turbo button..8)
Dimmed from 2.1a down to roughly 800ma so they are in a nice efficient zone. 100w covering a little skinnier than a 4 x 2....that's about where they grow stockier and less lanky

And in the box..

Going to try some CPU coolers out. Couldn't resist these copper ones..I cut out some aluminum but then I figured I'd be screwing it up so I'm going to modify it a bit. Copper screwed on to the pad with a little pk3. Stock pads are a little smaller than I'd like..but doable with a 3070 and thermal adhesive pad.

Could have just went arctic but these will be 3590s at 1a putting out about 90w. From the results I gathered..need to double check it..these run about 20c cooler than the arctic

May get a arctic 11 just to see what the difference would be if any..

Like I said...couldn't resist...copper and aluminum are just sexy together.

Need some parts to arrive before I can finish it up...:joint:

Still going to make one with the heatsink below the box...got some good ideas for that...but I wanted to toy with this first

Hi Posit, you ever try something like this stuff? Or any of those pyralitic graphite sheets?

http://www.digikey.com/us/en/ph/LairdTechnologies/Tgon800series.html

It's electrically conductive which is not ideal in all situations, (but at the same time add this stuff and some isolation tape and you can build your own circuits :)). I've used it on my Illumitex rigs and my Vero rigs and no problemos with shorts and such. Not as heat conductive as some thermal pads but much easier to work with and it's supposed to be very effective for removing heat and from what I can tell it does it very well on a mostly polished piece of aluminum. Cheap too which is always a plus.

Thanks Indiana! Plants in this grow are blue dream and Girl Scout..coco kush was in the last grow

never have tried vanilluna...I've done true blueberry and original blueberry from dj short. Didn't get any keepers but the plants were really unique...just not the berry I was looking for. Have a ton of f2 I need to go through..did a open pollination so there's all kind of diversity in there.

The coco kush I'm running isn't djs though. It's a cut I got a few years ago..coconut kush. Actually has a coconutty fragrance and a nice sweetness to it. It was my favorite..but the bubba I just got is emptying faster..lol.

Always looking for dj short reviews though..his beans are so expensive it's hard to chose one. Vanillaluna is dank? Smells of vanilla?

vanilluna is suuuuper dank, and yields really well also. our cutting
doesn't smell like vanilla, its more like unripe/tart blueberry, melon,
and an earthy smell, but not in a traditional earthy way, hard to describe.

our luna is a variegated chimera, so the smell/taste changes from
grow to grow and room to room. kinda cool though because you
don't get burned out on the same flavor lol. same three base flavors,
they just get "mixed" differently in the outcome.

dj does lectures all over the us and if you catch him at a lecture he
has genetics available, check it-
