Good stuff Supra et al!

I am finding out a 3050 chip adhered to a pc heatsink with a quality pc fan runs close to ambient. There is real wisdom in running your chips stepped down <15%+ of max cap.

If using a dimmer driver, I would still stay below cap on full throttle.

i bought some 3070's today, and contemplating how I want to drive them. Thinking dimming but not certain I want to pioneer throttling these chips. Instead, I am thinking of using constant driver around 1.6 A, thoughts? thanks.

Heatsinks were already polished just had to drill them for the chains and solder the leads on. I used prolimatech PK2 thermal paste and 18 gauge 50V wire. The connections are bare crimp on sliders with heat shrink tubing. It makes it easy to swap drivers, modules and link strings without having to worry about polarity.

The lights are insanely bright and you can feel radiant heat if you put your hand in front of the beam. I tested them at 648mA 726mA and 1040mA. Each COB will get its own driver.

What color temperature did you buy? I was also thinking about it but I feel like the 2700k color temperature from cree is what the plants really love. I don't know what they mix in the CXA3050 that bbspills bought but I have four and my plants are kicking! I tried contacting cree sale directly by email asking about CXA3070 in 2700k but no response.

bbs is using 3050, 2.7k chips and his results speak for themselves. I bought the same 2- 3050's placed in <2 sf...amazing!

Currently, at Digikey, they are stocking 3070 in 3, 4 and 5 k, I got 5k for a different project.

What color temperature did you buy? I was also thinking about it but I feel like the 2700k color temperature from cree is what the plants really love. I don't know what they mix in the CXA3050 that bbspills bought but I have four and my plants are kicking! I tried contacting cree sale directly by email asking about CXA3070 in 2700k but no response.

These are on $11 each and should be close to 87% efficient. Downside is shipping time from Asia and soldering your own wires onto them. Hard to beat that price though. $10 is you order 5. I was thinking about using their 650mA drivers for my 3070s but once they warm up some of them only push 630mA at 34vF and that is just a bit too low where the efficiency gains are probably not worth it. Even 650mA is a bit lower than I would prefer. So those 1600mA drivers might put out a bit less at 34vF once they warm up also.

I ordered more 3000K 3070s and enough heatsinks to get me up to 1200W. Now I just need to figure what to do about this next batch of drivers.

I agree 3000K is not the perfect SPD but it looks better than HPS because it has more blue (~10%) and the entire curve is shifted toward red. It also lacks the huge green and yellow peaks that HPS has. So far I have been keeping the COBs just as close to the canopy as the RWB. So I realized that I could add more blue or more deep red if necessary and it would mix very well. I also plan on staggering each COB module next to an RWB module so they can benefit each other.

2700K definitely looks good but there is an efficiency penalty and I am not sure if it is worth it. To top it all off 2700K is not currently available in 3070 and 3000K is available in mid bin for a good price so I decided not to hold out waiting.

Ellydee I saw those mounts and they are interesting. I never drill my heatsinks though because I am constantly changing and updating them lol.

You guys are speaking another language. Well not really, my question is , is there a screw in LED light that I could supplement on a bud or 2 to see what happens. I have seen those metal $40. lEDs at lowes

I don't necessarily think it's a drop, as more red will say less lumens, when in reality, the energy was just shifted to red.. hence why cw chips have more lumens, it's just the blue showing that figure.. I feel nothing is lost, just translated.. the thing to watch out for in 2700k (high cri) is more blue..

also comparing the 3070 , and 3590, I'm lost, is the 3590 better?

Even when we take into account the decrease in lumens due to wavelength (by calculating the LER), the 2700K is still less efficient in terms of par watts. These are blue LEDs so it makes sense that the further we travel from blue the more phosphor that will be needed to achieve a redder curve. Also, the redder the curve the more of the output that falls outside of the PAR range into the far red.

Anyway, in my mind I would rather run the 3000K and add deep reds/deep blues if it turns out to be necessary. I am hoping I don't end up with leafy buds lol.
