DIY Heat Exchanger Idea

This thread looked really interesting to me, based on the title. Unfortunately I got stoned and the engineering is beyond me. Real bummer. Oh well, maybe someday.

I hope you cool the hell outta stuff. Just make it affordable when you sell it.
I've been working with water cooling for years now.

new tap water to cool it
In the cooling tower you should be able to vaporize lots of water - depending the airflow, watertemp.+quantity of your cooling water and surface typ +area.
You have to substitute this amount.

You could use it in summer as air condition also, as the outcoming air is cold and wet -
but be carefull !!! this brandnew, modern style watertower cooler can become quickly a stinky black hole where lots of bacteria and legionella give fucking heavy birthday-parties.
With a little help from all the metall-ions in the cooling water may be it stays clean and septic - but be carefull with your health.

Looking to the professionals in watercooling i remember a midnight walk in a cooling tower of a coal-fired power station.
A cooling tower is a very simple system of pumping water up and let it fall down through the air. They are sometimes 300ft high and cause a passive convection to pull out wet air the whole year. The huge amount of heat energy they are able to sink is a result of the
evaporation energy of water 2441J / g
This is 0,68 KW*h for 1 L.
A 2000W of lamp heat *15h/day can vaporize @ 25°C a daily quantity of ~45L.
So adding 45L of tap water a day to the cooling water is the cheapest way.
I loose in my 300W system about 5L/day with only 1 wet socket (my size is 45) hanging it in the windy growroom

i think a good place for such a cooling tower in my case - would be after the carbon filter to enrich the outgoing air with heat and humidity.

I will see if i can find a cheap way to do it - as i also like to run things simple and cheap.

Wait a minute, doesn't the air go in at the bottom and out the top of a cooling tower?

top of a cooling tower
As we don`t have "natural convection" we use a fan tu push air through.
So we don`t need to respect direction of a "natural" airflow.
I put 2 towers parallel to have easy connection
when eg. you cut out ~50cm from your air tube after carbon filter -
and put your ~ 50cm wide cooling tower in between.
You have to collect the water on the bottom und with the air stream you can do more or less, what you want.
Important only to have a big , wet surface inside the tube(best hanging vertically).

eg. °°°°°I_I°°°° or °°°°°I_I°I_I°I_I°°°°°

You can please help me to find a suitable "surface" inside the tube.
Imo the whole thing should be waterresistant, anti-corrosion and anorganic.
Something - practicable to take it out easiely - give shower and desinfection
and hang it in quickly again.

I will try it with plastic sewage pipes and hanging some nylons of my girl inside.

:bigjoint: ( i like my girl to carry wet nylonso_O)

So time will come, that we are able to cool down water of any amount and temp.
+- without additional electricity.
Together with a dimmable fan, it must be a cheap AC/DC/WC in summer to cool whatever room
or swimming-pool.

I see the only risk in - bad maintanance and bacteria - so take care about your lung :eyesmoke::eyesmoke::eyesmoke:

UOOUUUPS --- just got the idea to plan the inauguration with a gallon of whisky ---
so i will test, if this is a simple, funny way for desinfection - and how long does it take
to vaporize this gallon together with some friends. (:bongsmilie:mrgreen::fire::mrgreen:bongsmilie(:

( DON`T DO THAT WITH GASOLINE - AND OTHER AFTERBURNER !!!)

Are you pushing the air up or down through this?
