DIY Hash Tumbler

Hi,

I wanted to ask opinions on this tumbler I'm making.

It is made from an empty carbon filter and 110 screen printing mesh. It has some plumbing pipe siliconed to the top to provide a threaded access cap. I will use a plastic tub as housing and BBQ rotiserie motor to turn the drum.

Question: should I leave the perforated steel mesh in place, or take it out and replace with 4 threaded rods?

The perforated mesh might help with break down of trics / buds?
The threaded rods would help tighten the mesh by screwing the nuts making the end cap further apart.

You sir are a genius. See, this is MY idea! I am working on it now. Yes a hollowed out carbon filter.
my plan is to grind out the inner mesh. And put a 120 micron screen on the inside. Secure it with some magnets all around. On one end attach the rotisserie, how many rpm is the rotisserie. See I have tried a drill at what I think is 30min works good. Rotisserie seems to be like 2rpm. Speed it up?
Is that a bag or screen on the outside? The issue will arise where small chunks get past the metal and inbewteen the metal and the mesh. That’s why I will put the screen on the inside. Keep us updated. We need to find the best so we can go into business making these. IMG_5074.png This image I found is what I’m looking for but at a bigger scale. These filters can be heavy? you need to leave the mesh. For strength.

I had one made from a 5 gallon bucket a friend made me 25+ years ago... 90 micron stainless steel screen....BBQ rotisseree motor. Mirror. Boom.

Saw this. Just like yer thinking. I'd follow this lead. The SS screen is fairly cheap online and it will last you forever if you build it right the first time.

ok I have many new ideas floating around. But I want to the parts store today and spent45 min looking at parts and pondering the best route for the slickest machine. And cheapest. I’m still searching for a mesh casing like we haves been seeing. But optimal. Some are to think and heavy for no reason. “Going used” means I have to take apart an old air filter or carbon filter. Even a new 100$ filter requires taking it apart and discarding the air filter element. I want to space just the mesh wrapped around 2 ends. Then comes the need for a lid. And vuallá. Attach it to your drill.

I would do it in PVC easier to machine.

Not sure what you mean by a parts store but for screen mesh and a million other things use MacMaster Carr

I have tried a 5gallon pail and it lost its shape.
here is a pic of the optimum mesh, on which will rest a micro screen, held on by magnets. IMG_5083.png
I want to make it big so I can put whole branches in there. Turn it on walk away come back to a big pile

I take my popcorn and toss in 2.5 gallon bucket with lid. The kief will staticly stick to walls. I shake and twist the bucket. I will laddle the big pieces out to other 2.5 gallon bucket.
I have a paint brush I use to sweep the kief from the bucket to my trimming tray. I get a few grams each time till there is nothing left. The larger particles get dumped in acetone to pull any resin left.

The issue I see with the rotating device you will get kief everywhere and the container needs to be able be cleaned of kief and other dust. The method to get all the kief out will require steel balls to break up the buds. The issue with this is it can make dust and many small particles that will come though the screen.

Yes it’s not perfect. But it’s all in the right direction towards perfection. I do it at-45c with fresh frozen. I’m using a big window pane, and various scrapers to scrape it up.
Now I know, an AC 120v drill will not spin slow enough to work. Unless in invent a pulley system. So I am back to ‘no motor again’. I’m trying to not spend money you see….
