hello everybody, im making this thread to show everybody my dwc grow. i have a 5 gallon bucket with 3 slots for plants. i made this whole set up super cheap. im not going to use any special nutes, no ph meter, or any of those meters or anything people say you need. im going to grow strictly by what my plant tells me. the only food im going to use is african violet. 7-7-7 plant food. i have a 13 gallon air pump and 2 airstones in the bucket. im using tap water, im in LA the tap is perfect for marijuana ph wise. follow this grow. you will see how easy DWC .haters dont even post cause youll be waisting your time. this is strictly to show you dont need a ph meter or any advanced nutes and what not.. also this is a comparison grow. i have one plant in bubble and 1 plant in soil they popped on same day and are same strain. heres everything

the plant will grow but not thrive and thats what everyone on this messed up rock called earth is shooting for. Weed is what it is called because it can grow in a harsh environment. Are you doing this for nothing ,the more you help the plant the more the plant helps you.better roots = healthier plants ,not staying on top of your ph and your robbing the roots of the small side hairs..witch allows the plant to feed itself the nutes that it will need to produce buds later on in its life.As for hating ,Im not dude I strongly feel if you put the time into res changes, feeding, and checking on the overall health of the plant you could put more effort into helping the plant flourish.new light 001.jpghigh times 013.jpghigh times 020.jpgsomeone told me how to help keep the roots looking white as one of my nutes stain the roots in soil the roots are white soooooo thats what i want !!!!! when it comes to your plant do what you want!!!!understand that people are going to offer tips and give advice ...hopefully in a adult way, thats why i went on RIU in the first place .well im going to check back on this thread in a few weeks ,and good luck and big buds.

yes i totally get you but the 7-7-7 plant food full dose can support the plants there whole life. its probly the most organic way of doing hydro. i added 2 4 inch air stones to the bucket replacing the 2 1 inch airstones. much more bubbles now. and my roots look nice. tons of white hairs growing out the sides of them. ill put pics up soon.

great job and good luck.if your going to compare soil to hydro shouldnt it only be one plant in the bucket?
doesnt really matter. i can bet the hydro with 2 other plants sharing the rez, not counting if any are males, will do better then the soil. and if there are males witch i know there will be. ill just cut the bottom of the male and leave the roots.

hey bro,its never a good idea to let dead organic matter float around in your res. thats asking for a bunch of bad bacteria(aka root slime and root rot )just saying tho ...

try it and be sure to post your results that way others can learn if it works or not. good luck and happy growing!

why does everybody think shes a pit?? shes a pure bread American Bulldog. sorry that picture does not do her justice, my bad.and hydro woops soils ass hands down all day....... welcome to darkside the bubble force is strong within this one, lol.this was what i used to find out if i could grow separate strains in one res and what i came to was no. Each strain wants different nutes and the roots broke all the time and floated around getting scummy and started slimming so i had to use a beneficial bacteria tea .Heisenberg tea saved my ass ,its a sticky at the top section in the dwc fourm. its a long but good read !pezo 027.jpgnew 002.jpgnew pictures 007.jpganyways try everything yourself that way you know what works and what dont ,and than help others,if not for RIU I would still be using those training wheels called DIRT.lol
happy growing !!!!

You certainly get the award for ghetto setup of the year! Keep em green.
hah thank you :) i dont see the point in spending so much money buying equipment. i mean yahh you may get better yields in the long run but all your plants need is love and patience. i am good at making what i have work i guess

Not to knock your grow, I think it's spiffy, but why do it to prove it can be done? We already know you can do it. The whole point of hydro is optimization and complete environmental control. Seems counterintuitive to use DWC, and not try to at least optimize your nutrient setup for weed. That's kind of like custom ordering a viper and saying "Not V10 for me, I'll take the V6; oh, and no gauges for me, thanks I'll let the car tell me what it wants.". I know it will grow for you, provided nothing crazy happens. The whole point of hydro is that you can use meters for optimization though. Like I said, I'm not knocking you. I'm just curious why you would deliberately eschew an advantage. Your plants are looking pretty good so far, by the way. :)

I'm all in favor of helping the plant and optimization. But there is much disagreement over what that constitutes. For example, I've never seen any persuasive evidence that res changes matter much.

I think a great deal of what gets touted as optimization and "if you don't do this you're not a dedicated grower" boils down to marketing. There's always something new and different and the message is that if you don't jump on board, you aren't a scientific grower and you aren't doing the best for your plants.

There "is" such a thing as optimization and right and wrong, but there is also a sucker born every minute.

I'm referring to being able to find the place where your plants grow best, and keep it there. If you aren't monitoring your ppm's. how do you know if you changed your rez too soon? How do you tell if you should just top off with just water, because your ppm's went up, or with some nutes in the water because it's just a heavy feeder?
Changing the res because your "plants tell you to" could ,theoretically, require a deficiency to indicate. Instead, you could have just checked your ppm's, seen they were low, and prevented a slowing in growth. How do you know your nutes won't cause some ungodly ph swing without verifying it personally? I'm opposed to action for action's sake, but hydro growing seems to be based around the potential of complete environmental control. That's the whole point of hydro, minimize and control the variables, at least that's how I saw it. It's a method of growing, like anything else. It's advantages happen to be underexploited if you don't use the equipment that make it possible to maximize it's advantages though. All that you really seem to need is a ppm meter, some ph test strips for baselines, and a notebook. Once again, just my take on it though.
