Dinafem, Amnesia XXL

Hi there guys.

I'm just about to start my third grow. I was wanting to grow white widow xxl but couldn't get seeds in time, so have gone for Amnesia XXL.
Any body with experience growing this strain?
My last grow was Think different from Dutch passion. I ended up with 45g dry of each plant. I was a little disappointed due to the large yields I know she I possible of.
I had comments that they looked root bound. When inspected the root mass after harvest, they hadn't filled the pot.. Far from it! I think I made an error with the soil being to tight and wet at the beginning. I grow in biobizz all mix, I don't add any perlite. I'm thinking for tho grow, I'm gonna add extra perlite. Dinafem reccomend adding 30% coco coir to the soil. Anyone reccomend this over perlite? I'm also thinking of changing to biobizz light mix as its not as hot. Any thoughts?
I'm growing under a 400w dimmable. I start the first 3 weeks on 250MH then switch to 400w HPS.
I grow in 10 ltr air pots.
Anyone with any opinions or thoughts they would like to share... Feel free lol.
I'm gonna germinate tomorrow.
My last grow, I used LST, I might try a SCROG this time.

Anyways.. If you have any advice, id love to hear it. I'm gonna keep a grow diary too. So if anyone wants to follow allong and see the outcome. Feel free. I'm hoping to do alot better than the last grow.

Cheers and peace all.

One of my favorite breeders and this strain in particular

as this is an auto, hot soils has to be avoided,

I've not used Biobiz and would caution against using too much

I grow organic, and do recommend that you add 30% perlite

to your soils, as an aid to over watering and even root compaction

THIS PHENO(strain) HAS NO XXL, should be understood from the outset

its an Amnesia x Auto ...but a nice auto!!! ..lol

forget the coco, use perlite instead, and make it a sequential grow

to my blog: on Auto hints https://www.rollitup.org/Journal/Entry/10-top-tips-for-a-better-autoflowering-yield.30162

ps as this is a Sativa dom. auto it will take an extra 2-3 weeks to reach harvest

good luck

Cheers for your reply mate... Jv followed alot of your comments in the past. You have alot of knowledge on autos from what Iv seen! I will take your advice inboard 100%. I know that I fucked up with my last crop by bit allowing the roots room to grow fully. I'm aware that it will take a couple if weeks longer, that's cool by me. The lack of seeds has xxl written on it, I read that it was a cross of white widow xxl and amnesia... Giving it the xxl pheno. If its not xxl, that's no problem. Asking as its a good size plant and a great smoke lol. I was gonna use biobizz light mix instead if all mix. Biobizz is the only dirt I can get him of unfortunately. I'm sure light mix will be better tho. I will also add 30 % perlite, as you recommend. I'm gonna go real light on the water too, especially early on.

Cheers for your advice. If you think of anything else that could be if use.... Feel free to shout at any point lol. I'm ginna doccument tho grow every couple of days. Feel free to follow allong!

Peace

It can get tall. Like 4 and 1/2 feet or more. I did all perlite in a hempy and Lucas formula. It can get kinda stretchy. Thinking like maybe 12 weeks don't really remember. I might try tieing it down I dunno. Great smoke too. Should easily beat 46 Gs. Dinafem is my favorite breeder. Amnesia is a fav strain too.

Yeah, I'm aware it can grow very tall. I'm gonna low stress train to keep it shorter. I was maybe even thinking of using a vertical trellace with the bulb hung vertically in the middle with no reflector. Iv no seen tho done with an auto. I think this strain could work well this way. Also ill get much more surface area out of my small tent. Uf that makes sense?

10 ltr air pots gonna be ok for this strain? They are gonna have to be because its all I have lol. What size pots do you guys use?

Only have exeperience with one. And it got tall and lanky. I figure that's the XXL pheno. Now that doesn't mean every seed will grow that way. But, I'm thinking low stress too. Bend that stem over and run it around a circle around the container or whatever. Let the shoots grow into the light. But, I'm sure there are a lot of ways it could be done. Best of luck mate.

I used a 3 gallon hempy style bucket. That was plenty big enough.

Yeah I know what your saying, cheers mate. I thought, if I had a vertical trellace around the walls of my tent, I could train the main stem up then across, then up and across... And so on. It seems to me, that would make the best use of my space. I think I'm gonna bite the bullet and try it that way. Jts been a thought iv had since my first grow. I guess you don't know if you don't try lol. Ant thoughts on topping early on? I know topping autos is controversial but iv heard of success in doing so at 5 nodes high before flowering starts.

I like your idea just unfamiliar with that method. I don't rally top autos but, I've never really tried either. I deleted my notes, but it seems like it was kinda slow to start showing flower. Like maybe a month so if you did it really early it may not hurt anything. Again. That's not my style so I don't really know if it would work or stunt the plant or what. Best of luck.

What do you mean by sequential grow mate?
Sequential like one after the other

like a FORD production line ....every 90 days another tray is harvest as another tray is germed

yeah I FIM my autos for an extra 2-3 grams ...and budget 1 litre per week of growth,

you maybe cutting it fine, going 10 litres for 18-20 weeks,

don't forget these are Sativa Dominant plants

IMO minimum is 15 litre ..

consider black plastic tomato grow bags..?

good luck

Aha! Sequential lol. I get ya... Just like a ford prediction line lol. That's a good way of explaining it lol. That's what I did with my last grows. Iv had a few weeks off this time... Had other shit going on. Kinda looking forward to setting up again and getting better results. I was thinking of fimming or topping early. Not necessarily to increase yeild but to break the apical dominance and get a better canopy. What do you think to the vertical trellace/ vertical scrog type of idea.... Bare bulb vertically in the centre with no reflector. I know guys go it with photos but dunno if it would work with autos, iv not seen it done... I'm sure someone must have tho.... Lol. Something in my head is telling me to do it that way. I guess ill never know if I don't try. I don't wanna fuck it up tho, obviously. Its gonna give a much bigger surface area in my small tent and a will have like 360 light, not 50% reflected by a hood. If that makes sense. I might just give it a go! Unless anyone suggests it would definatly be a bad idea lol. Iv got a couple of weeks at least untill I have to make that decision. I'll keep that thought pending.
Yeah I know the 10ltr pots could be a bit on the small side. I guess I could look at other options like grow bags. If not.. I'll stick with what I have and see how it turns out. Its not the end of the world if I don't get maximum yeild. As long as 4 plants get me 200 grams minimum.. I'll be happy. My first grow was 114 grams from 4 plants.. Sweet seeds, red poison. Second grow was 110 grams from 3 plants, 2x think different and 1 red poison. This grow will be 4 plants and a better set up again. So 200 would make me happy. Any more is bonus, any less and ill be a bit disappointed but not suicidal lol.

Cheers

good idea..I seen a few,

even better with a cage around the bulb

to prevent the plants catching fire

install once tall enough

or just raise lights

Seeds germinated 1 week ago today! Started in root riot cubes. Transplanted the into final 15ltr air pots 2 days ago. Steady temp of 20 - 22c. RH of 55. 250w MH aprox 60 cm above. 3 x amnesia looking good. 1 x think different looking a bit behind. Will post pics below. Do they look ok for 1 wee sinse germination?

Cheers

Any one got any advice on the distance I should have my lamp from these seedlings? I was worried I had it to far away so have lowered it slightly.
Its a 250w MH. Its currently 75cm above and they were germinatet 9 days ago. Would appreciate any advice.
Cheers.

P.s. I realise why my last crop didn't establish a good root mass (I think). I had a temp of 28 to 30c at the beginning! I now have it stable at about 20 to 22c. Growth doesn't seem as fast as I remember, I think thats because the roots are growing more than above ground??

Cheers guys.

Will upload pics now.
