Did I get ripped off today at the head shop?

I bought 2 standard glass pipes, fancy color designs and all, for $25. It was "buy one get one free". But now that I think about it, $25 seems like a lot for a just a regular glass pipe. So maybe it was really buy 2 and get no free!

I've been browsing the glass forums this morning and the pipes you describe seem to sell around the $20/30 mark. I'd say you did alright.

Considering that any standard glass pipe probably took someone 10-15 minutes to make each (production style, not art glass style) that's the standard price for your India/China pipes that the Simpsons style convenience stores sell......... It isnt a good price, it isnt a bad price, its market value........ Its just two spoons.

if its 25 and no tax its not that bad

but kitty is right about them being mass manufactured

and custom bubblers go for 30 no tax

Standard what? There are soo many variables... Lol wtf?? The shop i buy my pipes from has "standard pipes" from 10-50 dollars.

Hard to say without pics. Doesn't sound like a terrible deal. For just a glass pipe I tend to think they're generally overpriced, but maybe that's just cause I don't care for 'em. =P

paid like 50 for my 4 inch color changing pipe. 25 isnt bad at all.

Yah i can some pretty nice custom pieces here from 30.00 + . If I want generic, it starts at like 10.

It's in your opinion if you got ripped off or not, but as far as price 2 glass pipes for $25 is a good deal unless they are super tiny and really really thin glass. If you like the way they look, and ifbyou like how they smoke and not too hard to clean, then I don't think you got ripped off, if you want a more detailed answer please include pictures

wow, $25 for 2 glass pipes? you either are getting a very good deal or shitty thin glass spoons made in china. Here in canada I pay at least $30 for a decent pyrex glass spoon.

How thick does a Chinese made pipe have to be before its considered 'Made In China' instead of 'Shitty Thin Pipe Made In China' ?

It could be solid glass, and people wouldnt think it thick enough to lose the China image......... I dont think you can convince people one way or the other, they already have their mind made on the way to the glass store of what they think is shitty and what they think isnt shitty. Its weird, I dont get it much myself..... The #1 brand of clear glass sold to glassblowers in the USA? China clear glass..... All them heady pipes arent always made from the best equipment!

Thickness, also, is a misnomer. Some of the headiest pieces out there are 1-2mm thick. Its about the construction, making everything into one flowing piece that wont break from stress, and using the best color and ornamental decorative work possible...... If glass has inconsistencies as a percentage of the tube or rod, the argument could be made that the thicker the tube and hence more glass, the more potential stress it packs which can create more breaks than it protects......

We blow glass in China....beakers, tubes and what not. What I simply DO NOT GET is that people dont hesitate to call our products 'Chinese crap' without even hold it in their hands.
However, I do understand that people from the US want to buy US made products, same as I guess Italians like to buy Italian made products. Fair enough.

Maybe we should just raise the price 10 fold and put a cool logo on the pieces

25 dollars for two pipes might seem like a good price to most folks, but no doubt those pipes were probably only 5-10 bucks AT MOST. Not only that, most guys in the industry are cool with making just a few dollars, you have to find their price and barter. Always barter when buying glass.

Also, the good knockoffs are coming from Taiwan these days, they are really solid and it's impossible to tell they aren't from USA.

Ya some hemp shops try to rip you off hard thinking you dont know much. Half the time you know more about there glass then they do! Once you find a legit shop you will know how badly you got ripped off! I went to high times a few times paid out the ass in glass then found my guy he just blows there prices away and hes better by far! 25$ for one pipe is kinda a rip off like you said buy 2 get none free.
