Does anyone have any idea where I can find grow room designs? Something that would allow me to do a hydro grow using four HPS lights. I want to have an idea of how I wanna set this up before I move into a new place that way I am sure I have enough room to do what I want. Thanks

My advice is get some paper, a measuring tape, and your space and then figure out how you need to design it.

I'm building my first grow room as we speak (see my thread "Grow Room Beginnings.") What I stated above is exactly what I did.

First what's your TOTAL space (H-W-D) and determine your total air volume of the room (H*W*D=Total Volume) then determine your square footage if you have a 10X10 bedroom then you have 100sq feet. L*W=Sq feet.

Now you know how much floor space you have and how many cubic feet of air you have. This tells you how many plants you can have, and how much air you need to exchange and filter.

My grow room is 7.5' tall, 6.5' wide and 2' deep. or 97.5CF of air. I'm putting in a 6" Vortex that moves 440CFM so the room will exchange 100% of the air 4 times a minute. That's WAY excessive but I'm also cooling a 1000W HPS with that air so I need the fast motion.

4 HPS huh? What wattage do you want to use? What space do you have, I could never fit 4 HPS in my space. If you're talking 600 or 1000 watt HPS you can cover a 5x5 to 6X6 area with light, so with 4 you could cover roughly 100 to 144 sq feet. I would over lap the throw a little to prevent low light edges. This also depends on your reflectors too!! If you get a sun system XXXL reflector per HPS you can get better reflections.

Get some graph paper and star figuring your dimensions. Also don't forget you'll need at least 2 divisions (a veg/clone room and a flower room) and you can veg your plants in about half the space you'll need to flower them.

Good luck.

If you would like me too I can design a grow room for you just give me the dimensions of the room or how many plants you wanna do but for 8 plants i would suggest 2x400/600hps lights not for bbut that depends on how big and how many plants you wanna do but yer give me a pm

sorry i meant to put I wanna use 4 600 watt hps lights. I'm hoping to do something where I can produce 5 lbs. I don't know if that sounds realistic with 4 hps or if I could actually do more than that if done properly. If more than great! In that case I may just use fewer lights. I havent bought any equipment yet so any suggestions are good.

I'm not sure how big of a room i'll be using yet because I havent moved yet. But unless I find a place with a garage or something it will probably be in a normal sized bedroom. 10x10 or 12x12 or something.

I appreciate the advice so far. Thanks

If I had a full 10X10 room I would divide roughly 1/2 of it and hang 4 HPS side by side with two rows of plants.

The other half of the room I would divide into 2 parts, 1 veg/clone and 1 drying room. Giving myself plenty of room to walk and bend plants if possible.

You're yield is going to depend on how long you want your grow, the
genetics, and how well you grow. I would do a SOG with that space.

If your ceilings are tall enough I would veg for 2 to 2.5 months adding new clones every two weeks while moving veg plants from veg to flower every two weeks. Create a nice perpetual harvest.

I like that idea thanks tk76. I suppose I just gotta make sure each room is completely sealed so no light from the other rooms gets in. I was thinking if I vented air out the window I would bring air in from another room. maybe just open a window in the other room. and use a carbon filter venting it outside

Venting is tricky ... I'm REALLY hoping my ventilation works ..

I live in Florida and even with a $500 ventilation system in my attic it still gets up to around 130 - 150 degrees during the summer ... Guess where my hot air is going???

I'm venting right into my attic. For odor control I have a 6"X2' Odorsok that's splitting the two rooms.

https://www.rollitup.org/attachments/grow-room-design-setup/434603d1243826698-grow-room-beginnings-vegpower.jpg

Once I have purchased my fan it will point straight up into a 6' hole I will be cutting in the ceiling. It's going to be a TIGHT fit, but according to the math it should all fit.

So the air will go..
Room -> OdorSok -> HPS Hood -> Fan -> Attic -> Sofit Vents -> Outside

I seriously doubt that the air blowing off the 1000W HPS will warm up my already hot attic even the tiniest bit and theoretically I don't even need the OdorSok as it will be heavily diluted in the attic, but better safe than sorry IMO.

If you vent into a separate room I would instal a Ozone filter and then filter it through carbon and then out of the house (I feel the attic is the safest.)
If you go out a window I'd build a windowbox to keep any light from escaping and make it look as 'natural' as possilbe.

My room is incredibly small and I'm moving 440CFM out of it (roughly all the air out of the room 4 times a minute.) Right now I would focus on locating your space and working up from there. Your location makes a lot of decissions for you.

Remember for 4 HPS your going to need at least 15 amps PER LIGHT. Most household breakers are 15 amps for 10 outlets, so you might have to run some extra power to the room just for your HPS. You can get away with the regular power for air and water pumps, and what not. The HPS alone is like a oven or a fridge it yanks some serious power.

I have my 1000W going into a dedicated 20 amp outlet to cover everything plus surges. Then I have another 20 amp for everything else..

I've been planning since Dec and just started building last week. This takes SERIOUS time and plan correctly. I highly reccomend getting several grow books and reading everything you can her, it will help a lot!!
