I've been searching different forums on Darkstar and found this one. Mine is growing like a beast in Organic super soil, mostly RO water, occasional AACT, 400 Hortilux, lumitek ballast and good air control. She smells amazing right now as she is farther along than in the picture. I Topped and Super Cropped to train. The topping I did was basically three times; 1-2-4 ended up with 9 24"-30" heavily budded kolas. I used the twist to pop supercrop method at the second week of flower. Must say that I am really surprised at the negative experiences with this strain. I for one am willing to bet that I grow it again as the mother plant is on auto pilot and needs little to no care in a peat/perlite 50/ 50 mix few with AACT every third week or so. I sampled a bit from a kicker branch growing near the crown a week ago. At that time the Trichs were at clear/cloudy mostly clear and I feel that with the proper time this will be a very hard hitting weed with an old school smell and ultra dense nugz. I ain't kicking this one out just yet. One's I have kicked out are Nirvana's White Widow, 7 seeds germed, 3 females grew airy and weak, Nirvana Papaya, 3 germed, 1 male, 1 female, 1 failed to launch, and GreenHouse ChemDog Feminized, 1 germed, lanky and stretchy in veg. they sure look nice im starting week 5 of flower now under 420 tru watts of cfl's (10- 42 watters= 420) and really like what im seeing ,yours look great what week of flower are they in ?thanks.

Thanks man, they are almost into their 9th week. Cool idea of having 420 watts. All on top or do you have them vertically along the sides too? Mine required more Nitrogen then I started them out at and I will adjust next time in late veg/early flower. I would have liked them to stay a bit greener at this point of flower as they(leaves) are yellowing faster than I like. Have a good one.:peace:

I will say, while its not overly potent, it does have a nice mello buzz to it. After about 45 days in the jar it is starting to taste more fruity than like baby poop.

What do you mean when you say "Indica Pheno"? DarkStar is a pure Indica. It is a cross of Purple Kush and Mazar-I-Sharif. Maybe you mean the "Purple" pheno because I for one was not fortunate enough to have that one. I was hoping for the purple phenotype but I only germinated 2 seeds, one was male and the other turned out to be this great specimen that I now have. One of the many things to consider when selecting a phenotype of a strain is durability and vigor. Things such as yield, taste and buzz are very important but don't really matter if the plant doesn't grow right. Remember, sometimes it takes popping 10-20 seeds in order to find a keeper to give you that well rounded set of attributes. Grow pure Organic, it won't let you down.

I have 8 on top in y splitters plugged into 2 power strips that I screwed into some plywood on the back side of a turkey pan used for my reflector holds it all together ,then I dropped a 42 wat bulb down on both sides for some side penetration.Also have 2 small circulating fans ,2 passive intakes and a 150 cfm bathroom fan mounted at the top of cab ,exhausted out and up into attic,growing in soil ffof and fox farm nutes and some mollasses at evry 3 watering or so.5 weeks now of 12/12 ,breeder says 10 wks which seems about right .What do yours have left a week or 2? Topped mine twice vegged about 5 weeks to about 12 inches ht bushy as hell with lots of nice colas ,hoping for the purple pheno also my temps are good for that.I have 2 darkstar going and 2 kushage plants now are all at around 2.5 ft and the colas are filling in nicely.They are really crowded now in my cab (40" w 24" deep 60" ht. Under a loop the kushage is ahead of the darkstar in crystal formation.But all in all im really happy with both strains ,hoping this will be my best yeild in this space.(200+ g) Anyways keep me updated on your final harvest time and weight I appreciate it .what do you expect to pull dry off of 1 plant? and how big are they? this will be a good comparison of a 400 watt yeild between hps and cfl.as I am really tempted to throw a 400 watt hps in my cab but the height issues hurt me ,the heat I can control. Thanks again.

Be sure all your wiring and connections are safe. No weed's worth a house fire. I believe she'll go one more week. That's one plant in the pictures with 9 Kolas( 9 24"-30" heavily budded kolas). I am shooting for 14 but will be happy with 8(224). I train my plants by topping and super cropping to get what you see there.

Btw, my darkstar has been in the jars around 40 days now and the last few smokes have been pretty nice. It still has the nice mello buzz that I like but it seems to be maturing and becoming abit more potent. The fruit smell is becoming more apparent in the taste. Now it is beginning to taste more fruity and less baby vomitish.

i did 3 of 4 regular darkstar from the bday bash last year, and had three phenotypes from it. One was the fruity smelling one which was decent in quality and yield.
The better phenotype, from the 3 looked more like stickenuggz pic with yellowish/orange hairs, and a bit purple in some places, it smelled like a cross between cheese and garlic and has a bit of a kick to it. The high is nice, and its very stinky but not as bad as the buku from th seeds. The quality of the cheesy pheno was above average, but very enjoyable. I revegged it after harvest so i could feminize it. The second harvest is now drying, and i got a few beans from it.

As far as hermies go, the cheesy pheno i got is really stable, never any nanas on it, and it took several weeks to turn with CS...
The fruity one did throw a few nanas, and i believe the other pheno, which was sorta similar to the fruity hermed about halfway through.

So, there is keepers in the regulars if you can find em.

I will vouche for darkstar because of its heavy yields, my friends darkstar produced the biggest cola ive ever seen.. A good foot and a half long atleast, cocogrow under 150w hps and some cfl's.
It has a kinda fruity/hazy flavor and the buzz is decent. Its a great yielder but my favorite from thseeds so far has to be the buku, best flavor imo.

Gotta be SAGE for me, buku was good, but took as long as the sage.

The cheesy darkstar didnt produce big fat colas like most i see, or as big as the fruity phenos. Its more of a compact bud structure, really 'nuggy' looking.

Man the reviews and comments I read on buku are so diverse, I dont think its a very consistant strain.. mine flowered pretty fast and had a very distinct and lovely flavor I cant get enough of, the plant itself was super hardy with a really thick stem and dark leaves.. SAGE gave me a little mold trouble and I wasnt very happy with it, hopefully kushage will do better for me.

The buku i had was pretty good, didnt take much to get you pretty high. It had a fat stalk as well.
Sucks about the sage, its in my top 2 of favs for sure.

trying to diagnose slight problem on my darkstar ,starting wk 6 of flower noticing rust/brown colored spots on some fan leaves,they start on the middle and work out also overall yellowing,2 kushage with them the fan leaves remain lush on exact same feeding schedule.Thinking its mg or even potash deficency.I hit them today with a 8 n 31 p and 17 k with .5 mg and .5 ca + some grandmas unsulphered mollasses.If anyone else noticed this with their darkstar or have any suggestion all help is appreciated . Thanks Other than this the buds are really looking nice,I want this to be all it can be.

Maybe something else was at work there. Mine have been tasty early in drying. I grow organically so no salt based nutes or product of any kind, when I harvest I use a method like Subcools where you hang the branches after a trim for a couple of days until the outsides get a lil crispy then I remove them from the branches to lie flat on a screen for a couple days or so. I've heard people talk about baby poop pot and honestly I'm not convinced its such a bad thing especially if it cures out to tasty nugzz.

See I was having a difficult time describing the taste but you have it pretty close I think...cheesy with garlic; whereas, mines a little peppery too. On the BUKU's. Mined hermed and they were healthy and happy. No stress at all. Fucked me up I was really wanting a keeper of that.

DarkStar is an excellent growing plant. The mom is basically bulletproof. I think I can I can push the yields even more with this by using a 600. My 400 is a great set-up but it lacks the punch you need to get lumens to the lower part of the plant. A 400 has a sweetspot of about 15" or so. Not sure what the 600 is but obviously it would be much more. Lumens=Thick Buds

Your BUKU should have finished up much sooner. Any heat issues?

Before mine starting going all wild side on me it was a beautiful plant. Big ole leaves on a fat stalk. Some nice Old School weed there.
