Plants grow more in the dark then when lights are on.
So why the fuck have I spent so much money over the years buying bulbs and ballasts and hoods????
you must know something about plant growth no one else on this planet knows about....

Why you mad? Lol

Plants grow fast in the dark, and do so because they operate on circadian cycles. According to ScienceDaily.com, university research revealed that plants exhibit growth in predawn hours, and cease growth in daylight. In simplistic terms, it makes sense that plants would grow at night since daylight activity consists of absorbing light for photosynthesis.

So Nobody answered this guys question?
People growing in soil/coco, stop watering their plants when they induce them to a 2-3 day dark cycle.
Now do people in hydro empty there buckets(leavings roots dry) when doing this technique to stop water uptake,
or do they leave the res full, air and water pumps on and circulating?

I have personally always used a res chiller to get the bucket temps low.....or if you're poor like I was the first time I did it bags of ice/frozen water bottles work ghetto fabulous as welL!

I've been flushing for about two weeks. Today I turned off the lights, intending to give my plant a couple of days of darkness before chopping her. I've found lots of info on doing this in soil (people stop watering at this point, of course), but what about DWC? Should it pull her out of the water and let her roots dry out in an empty bucket? If I keep her in water, should I turn off the pump? Not quite sure what to do. This is my first DWC grow.

Many thanks.

oh yeah, I do the 72hr dark period as well, its given me more resin and aroma, but the aroma part could be in my head. :)

I know. That's why I'm confused. :-) Some people say that a couple of days of darkness before the chop makes for a smoother smoke; I've never done it before. I guess it doesn't really matter, though.
People say a lot of things. You flower a plant for 56-70+ days. Do you think one or two days of dark in that 8-10 week period is going to make a drastic change to your bud?

this thread got off topic with all the conflict -_0
was really hoping to have that question answered myself OP! ESP in regards to the dry reservoir but also in terms of the dark period
plants need light to photosynthesize but i do believe primary growth is during the dark period when that harvested energy is put to use
at least for me i see most change "overnight" every morning the plant looks different, and when i check periodically throughout the day not much happens (perhaps the time between checking is just too frequent to notice but i strongly believe otherwise)
I have 5 weeks of flower to go and fuck it ill go for it (darkness) ive seen youtube vids where people show their harvest and many say its been in dark three days blah blah and they look fantastic. not saying its substantial as BDOG KUSH pointed out but small things do add up
i for one switch back to metal halide the last week of bloom and notice positive effects in my trichome production and last bit growth as well, so one more little trick is always nice
the dry root thing however i want to find someone who has tried it
in theory if the plant is already dying and at the end of its lifecycle when we harvest then i dont believe much damage could be done and theoretically it could help kickstart the drying process (as the soil growers do)
however dwc is a whole different ball game and im concerned that in a last attempt to salvage its generation the plant might form male nanners out of confusion/panic

anyways anyone who wants to get back on track with theory or experience im all in! only three grows under my belt so i dont want to step on toes with this discussion but i will say my harvests have yielded me nicely and the quality is nice as well and i feel like i have some decent information to share
