Hey guys, Just about to harvest my first crop and heard alot about leaving the lights off for a certain amount of time right before harvest. Ive heard leave em off for anywhere between a day and a week. Trying to get your guys thoughts and experiences.. thanks

those links did not work for me ><

from my understanding you do it to let the plants know that they are dying naturally, if not its like a type of shock and it releases some kind of chemical that affects taste they say. yo but im not sure about this at all

giving the plants a night period before harvest can be good if you want to get the most of the THC crystals..
It is said that the crystals reach their peak potency during the dark period.. Giving the plant a longer dark period before harvest will just make those trichomes give everything they have...
A week becomes a bit long, because the plant is susceptible to mold and pests...
24 hours dark period is enough i think...

I do it when i can, if i dont have other plants at different stages in the room...

Take it easy,
peace out

what this does mainly.. is it increases
resin production" with a 24-72 hour dark period before harvest. It does this by using up all of its (or close to all. 99.9%) during that last dark cycle before harvest. Thus, resulting in a buildup of trichs, hairs can get bigger also.

I've read that some breeders will recommend this, especially for white strains.

I've heard of people giving their plant or plants.. up to a TWO WEEK dark period before harvest. That's.. ehh I dunno.
I have never gone that long.. with the harvesting dark period.

Hope this cleared some confusion up.

Happy Holiday's everyone.

Peace. :eyesmoke:

its a myth plain and simple.. why would 24-36 hours of dark increase palnt potency when the previous 2-3 months growing didnt get the job done..?

I give at least 3 day and it seems to do wonders. First, it is a known fact that chlorophyl will start to degrade in the dark which is good. Also, UV light damages things which is why you don't leave anything you want to keep very long in direct sunlight. If you are leaching (killing) a plant, there is no point to expose it to harsh light. Also, it is possible that old THC is being degraded as new THC is being produced. By putting the plant in the dark you stop this degradation.

The last part is just conjecture but my patients who are unaware of this practise have noticed and commented about a big improvement in product quality. I might actually store a plant in darkness and flushing solution for a week until I'm ready to manacure. Then I hang the entire plant sans leaves upside down until dry and then it goes straight to the bag. No need for curing with this process.
