Just try one or 2 domestic LED globes, no drivers required and no major heat problems either. KISS :)

Thanks for the input mate. But, basically what I want is a tidy looking all in one unit for clones/seedlings, through to about 2-4 weeks veg.
So my idea was to have a switch to control 2 or 3 x small cobs, for clone/seedlings then another switch to control 2 or 3 x Vero29C, for when the clones/seedlings transition into veg. After 2-3 weeks in the small tent, plants will be moved into a larger tent that will be running just Vero29's to flower. So Im still making the original light I asked about, along with this clone/seedling light ;)

I like your thinking. Do you anticipate some kind of 'perpetual grow', where you've always got something starting and something nearly ready to cut?

Something like that ;) I like to have 2 plants on the go most of the year. Generally vegged for 6-8 weeks, so its nice to have the small tent to get them started and at least 4-6 weeks into veg just as the girls in the flower tent are finishing up. Im so sick of changing lights etc. hence the reason for having something made up that is a bit more permanent, in both tents :) So hopefully (if I wire everything right and dont fuck it up) I will have 2 x 3500 Vero29 for the flowering tent, 2 x Vero 18 on the same bar as 3 x Vero 13's (maybe, still figuring this one out), but on seperate switches, all out of 2 x mars 2 400w units which 50% of the bulbs are blown on :D
i've sorta just repeated myself about the bar, but hey, sometimes you gotta let the sativa just do its thing lol :weed:

I see what you are up to.
I'm on a very similar program but I've found the need for 3 stages, since there's never any room in my 4x4 veg tent. Like you, I like a fairly long veg. That's why I have a little clone/seedling tent (about 18"x12"), with the super-cheap LED globe(s) lighting it up.
I'm trying to get to the point where I can finish 2 plants about every 2 weeks, which means I have to start (on average) 2 seedlings or clones every 2 weeks as well.
I can see that it's never going to be like clockwork though, not least of all because of the weather. I've even started considering a HID, to warm up the room a bit in the winter.

Would a Growmau5 V kit run at 50w each be alright for a 2x4 or do I need the 6 piece kit? Or should I just wait for the newer tech?

1 cob per sq foot as rule of thumb. so you would be looking at 8 for that grow size. probs would get away with 5 but id jus go 6 and have a better layout of cobs for better coverage

i got 4 seeds that just poped and put them in pots this morning. ive been having to run my cobs (10x cxb3590 @1.4ma) full power to keep a good temp in my tent and with the heater on. how far should i keep them away from the pots? im at 24" now. might have to get another heater so im able to dim them down.

Cold af at the moment in Cutterland, but there's no need for 10 cobs to light up 4 tiny seedlings.
Also, there is a reason that they make small pots too, which not everyone gets and which I learned the hard way. The roots will need a balance of wet and dry(ish), which it's hard to achieve with a tiny plant in a monster pot. I had a go at explaining this here:

50w per square foot would be a bit too much for clones and seedlings wouldnt it? maybe some little Vero 13's just for rooting clones?
cloning would be better at 10-15w psf. lower light levels faster root development. I would go with some low wattage lights, not COB's. I am building a clone light with some samsung strips of 3500k and 5000k probably going to run them very soft and maybe 15w/SF. Right now I run mixed spectrum cob at 20w in 4 SF area that is 5w PSF, I than place rooted clones in a hydro bucket with another 5w PSF for hardening off to the veg room.

My first post here,so here goes... I will be getting some cxb3590's soon. 4@3500k(36v) and 4@3000k(36v).What will be the best BIN's to buy for those 2 spectrums? I want 2 drivers and have been adviced by RapedLED to get 2 Mean Well HLG-240H-C1400B. Will this be a good driver for running 4 cobs or do you recommend something else? I am in the UK and have only been looking at RapidLED and Cutter Electronics. On cutter there is a back order and I dont really want to wait. I also contacted Jerry from KingBrite Electronics Co., Ltd today ,but I am still waiting on him to come back to me. Are they any good?Any other places I can look for the cobs and heatsinks(best BIN please). Bit of a noob here in regards with the cobs as I only ever used hps. I got 10 UGORG Disco Biscuits beans waiting. Looking forward to your advice! ta

thanks thats a great tip. ive dimmed down 50% now and lowered it to 18" and maintained a steady 22/24c last night. its my first indoor setup and i guess im just trying to find what works. thanks for the help

We have heatsinks shipping to use this week, so minor delay at this point on backorders

Hi there and thanks Mark @welight for all that you do and offer us .... i ordered some diodes from you guys and theyre on their way and I cant wait to get them and wrap up my project

There was a mistake with the driver order. I am trying to figure out (or actually confirm) one thing before deciding whether I send back the driver or keep it for my advantage! I appreciate overyones help in advance and I hope this helos other newbs in the future to better understand different drivers!

Instead of getting the HLG-185H-C1400B which I ordered to run 48 LED diods in series, each taking 3V (for a total for 144V and i may need to disconnect one of the diodes to run them on the 185 which gives out 143V) ...... they sent me the HLG-240H-C1400B (which gives oit 179V)!

My question is:

Would the extra volts burn out my diodes or will the diods just pull whatever voltage they need (144V) from the driver and the extra will just stay behind in the driver for additional diods to be added in the future?

should be no problem, drivers will regulate the requirement as long as you have enough min/max voltage in the driver your good to go. Having more volts at the top end is no issue these remain unused
