Crockpot Cana coconut oil how to

Ok so here goes. I made a double batch but you can make a single the same way. Normally i will use 1 oz buds per 1 container of coconut oil. Around gram for gram.

So for double batch we will need 2oz buds. These are fluffy bottom buds. 2 containers of coconut oil. These are found in any grovery store. A crock pot and a coffee grinder($10 or so) and some cheese cloth.

Heres the buds. Grind them in the coffee grinder and put them in the crock pot.

Now put in the coconut oil and fill with water around 2/3's full or so

Put on the lid and run for 12 hours on low stir every now and then. After 12 hours it will look like this.

Now its time to strain it. Be warned it will be blazing hot from this point on try not spill it on you or touch the stock pot we're about to use.

Ok so what we'll need now is a stock pot, cheese cloth, some tongs, and a bungee cord or some string.

What we want to do now is put the cheese clot over the stock pot and use string or bungee cord to hold it in place while we pour the oil through it and then slowly pour it through. After it will look like this.

Now what you want to do is slowly and carefully take string/cord off and ball it up. Now take the tongs and squeeze it real good to get all the oil out.

Now you should be left with just oil that looks like this

Now wrap this up with some aluminum foil and put it in the fridge. It should completely harden in around 24 hours. Now you want to cut a whole and drain the water

Now remove the cana oil and should look like this

Its ok to cook with now but i prefer to wash the oil first. Just use the same stock pot and put just enough water to reach the bottom the lid on a mason jar. Cut the oil up in chuncks and fill the jar about half and fill with water. Just barely put the lid on the jar so that it doesnt fall off but still lets the air out while heating

Put it on the stove on high and just take it off as it starts to melt. Tighten the lid and shake it then loosen the lid and put it back in etc until its all the way melted. After its melted you'll notice the water is cloudy like this

What you want to do now is use the cheese cloth on another jar and strain it in and the put it in the fridge to harden. Just remember hot water cold jar and it might break. Now after it hardens do it two more times and the water should be alot clearer after the third wash

After it hardens your ready to bake! Use your own judgment on how much to use. I usually put 60 grams of oil in a batch of brownies and its plenty strong enough for me.

Enjoy!

I'd like to move this to the cooking with cannabis forum later. It will stay on the first page a lot longer there too.

Great info. Thanks..

I always worry about dosage when making edibles. The trial and error has sent me to bed a few times :) Here is my current theory. 1/4-1/2 tsp of bud would be a serving for many people. Say I want to use the coconut butter in a hot drink such as tea or coffee. I would use 1/2 tsp of bud for every tablespoon of coconut butter. Then I added 1 tbs of the finished budder to a drink I'd have an idea of what dosage I was getting. (assuming proper decarb has taken place)

here's a funny story. I first tried to use coconut milk beverage to make a base for chai tea. I measured it all out and decarbed etc.. The coconut milk beverages don't have a lot of fat in them so I added some organic butter to the pot. When it was all cooked I let it sit for a while then made some chai tea. It was AWESOME. The only problem was that the butter had separated and floated to the top of the jar. When I poured my measured dose into my cup I basically got all butter which was super concentrated with THC since it absorbed most of the cannabinoids.. I saw God that night :)

Thanks for the recipe. I'll give this a shot.

Umm, did you decarb the bud first? You didn't say so,,,and it don't look so.....

I do like how you "wash" your finished product!!! Removes much of the "off" or bad taste...

It is a crazy feeling when you eat to much for sure. First time i made brownies i made them way to strong for me and ate a whole one. About an hour later i knew it was to much lol and for the next 7 hours or so its hard to explain the feeling but i never want to eat to much again :)

And make up batch and let me know how it goes!

I havent really looking in to the decarbing since i only bake. From what i understand it doesnt need to be decarbed if you bake.

I would be down to do it though and see if it makes a difference. Whats the best way to do it with finished coco oil? Also wouldnt it get decarbed when making the oil since it is in the crockpot @215 degrees for 12 hours?

As far as the washing i picked that up from a thread i read years ago and it really does make a difference in the smell and taste of the edibles.

Crock pot? nope. Not hot enough! Baking can, but for the most part the temps of the baked material don't get high enough, long enough,,,,,,,,so then..........
You need to convert the THCA to THC or D8 to D9 thc.....Look at the chart and the THCA to THC changes it lists.
To get maximum effect here’s what to do.
  • Pre-heat your oven to 250
  • Grind the buds, leaf or shake as fine as you can (more surface area)
  • Spread the ground material as thin as possible across a sheet pan (or cookie sheet). Cover loosely with foil, but seal tightly at the edges (this traps cannabinoids, terpenes etc.)
  • Bake for 30 minutes at 250
  • Let cool completely before removing foil.
You can use a silicone baking sheet or a piece of parchment paper on the sheet pan to keep all the good stuff from any kind of sticking problem you may be worried about,,if you are so worried

Now make your oil......The difference will surprise you.

Decarbing is an interesting topic. There is a bit of info people should know. The more you decarb the more sort of sleepy effects you will likely receive. If you just had some buds and tossed them in brownies without making budder then your product will likely not decarb properly. Cooks recommend decarbing first then baking.

This is an interesting article.. Basically 60 minutes at 240 degrees F will decarb any form of mj.

I agree ,,, but find 30 min at 250 (covered) to be better.....

Nothing like a 2 day buzz.......I don't find the first day as "sleepy", but for sure a very "Couch Lock" effect.....
A lazy Saturday in July on my back deck,,,,,,,,,,
Sitting on the deck with my wife and friends drop by. "Dude.....are you ok? You looked dead!......Nope,,,grab me a beer and put it in my hand,,,ok?
Hey man,,,you got time to hang? You do!! Good then, have a cookie!" LOL...

Cpl of hours later....."Man, what was that cookie and how did you get the chair to become part of my ass?"
:fire:

WARNING: Quad strength treats tend to make clothing fall off women at some point...Red Velvet cupcakes with butter cream frosting works best....."Goodies" in cakes and frosting!

I will be trying this next time for sure. Always down for a better oil.

I made this yesterday. I used 1 tbs of ground, decarbed bud for every table spoon of Coconut butter.

It will definitely make you forget your problems. It will also make you forget where you put your car keys and what you went to the kitchen for :) I couldn't function that well and had a lot of work to do :) I was glad when it wore off. The key is that it works great!
