Couple of Questions about 400w MH/HID

I have been doing WEEKS of research and preparation for my first grow and I plan on achieving the most optimal yield possible from 3 plants. In order for me to do this though I need some answers for the following questions. I appreciate all responses that contribute to the topic :)

I have a cool basement, but the only problem is, it is very dusty on the floor and there are cob webbs, not an accessible window (may fix this problem but just assume for now I don't have a window) will it be possible to use a 400MH/HPS Light in a 4x4 grow tent without ducting? Or will the dust and debris from the basement not work out. I have a strain that is supposedly highly resistant to mould/cold conditions and produces large yield.

My second option would be to build/improvise a grow cabinet which can be built to accomodate a 400w HID light but it is nearing summer in this north central area of the US. The problem with this is it is in the attic of my garage unattached to the house so I don't have to be as discreet (the ladder gets pulled down from the ceiling) There is also no window in this attic but I could possibly vent into the lower part of the garage?

Would it be better to just go with a 250w HID so I don't have to worry about ducting?

if you pre-filter your intakes, you'd be fine in the basement. run your air circuit scubber>hood/cooltube>fan. exhaust your scrubbed air back into the basement. use passive intakes, go ahead and grab a 6" fan - it's overkill for the 400w, but it will cool your next upgrade!! only duct outside of tent should be a short exhaust pipe with no smell.
the light will work in a 4x4 but a 600w with more plants would be better! not trying to start a "perfect light/tent/fan/medium/ice cream" type battle, just sayin. that tent will hold more plants/yield OR that light will grow three plants in a smaller tent.
how you planning the grow??

If dust is a problem, filter your intake. Attach a filter to your intake fan. Then attach ducting to your fan. So Filter > intake fan> ducting> grow tent.
