Could Police Search??

I was wondering, if you were at home, and someone tried to break into your house and you chased them off, but a neighbor called the police, would the break in give them probable cause to search your residence? or could you tell em its all good and file a report and have them leave?

if u are there u dont have to let them in only if u wanted to file a police report and claim missing shit i think someone else might know but i can imgaine they going to say we coming in if u say u dont want them in your house

thats kinda what im thinking, but was just wondering cuz i know like in a domestic disturbance case, they supposedly have to come in and see if everyone is ok etc..
