BOYNE CITY Authorities discovered an illicit marijuana grow operation in Boyne City.
Charlevoix County Sheriffs officials seized more than 300 marijuana plants, guns and various drug paraphernalia from a Boyne City residence. Officials arrested the homes occupant on multiple felony drug charges, including manufacture of 45 kilograms of marijuana, two marijuana delivery charges, two delivery of Xanax charges, possession of narcotics and maintaining a drug house.
Authorities withheld the suspects name until after arraignment. More arrests in the case are possible, said Don Schneider, county sheriff.
Additionally, the Charlevoix County Drug Team completed helicopter fly-overs last week and found 364 marijuana plants at 18 different sites, including some medical marijuana operations. Law enforcement officers confiscated the plants from the illegal grow sites, Schneider said.
The sheriff also said authorities want to ensure medical marijuana growers meet all requirements of the law and used the state grant-funded helicopter fly-over to check.
