Controversial Defoliation Increases Marijuana Yields

It's like this:

People love to write articles, because some (gullible) people actually put some faith into whatever they see in print. No doubt about it, controversy gets attention!

Now, one truth about science is that others should be able to replicate the results (using the same methods). If it really worked, it should work for everyone that's tried it, and we would all know how wonderful it is! But it doen't work! Instead it is a controversial, laughed at, methode that is ridiculed by those of us who understand how growing really works. THERE IS NO SECRET, MAGIC, TRICK INVOLVED.

A plant is essentially a solar powered "thing", how in the hell does it make any sense at all to remove it's solar panals? Where is the logic in that?

It makes sense to remove less efficient solar panels so more efficient panels can work more. A good friend is head grower at a seattle dispo, bottom line is I listen to his advise over the internet's.

hahahah T.H my brother there is no need to get all worked up about it .... come down and hit a bong bro bongsmilie we r all friendly here :peace::peace::peace::peace::peace::peace::peace::peace::peace::peace::peace::peace::peace::peace::peace:

Blimey .... AGREED... i do defoliage in my scrog when girls start budding to show off more bud sites cover with fan leaves ... it's not the full strip but partial strip and since i start doing it i increase in yield from 5% to 10% depending on strain.... i chop of half of my fan leaves when i do that.... so partial works for me ... complete strip i have to agree with T.H.Cammo I think is hurtful for a plant .... after all those are plant solar panels...:bigjoint:

Defoilate for 2 reasons if ur humidity is 2 high during flower and ur a tight ass and dont wanna buy a dehumidifyer

Second reason
At end of flower mass defoilation ( manicure while alive) will speed up dry times as it drys the bud alot more

There is a method to stop stretch during first 2 weeks of flower by defoilating makes plant regrow leaves instead of stretchin as much

But at the end of the day it just makes for a longer grow

Who knows more about what "solar panels" are less efficient than the plant? If a leaf is not contributing to the plant's health, the plant sheds it. You DO know that leaves are used to store food and energy, along with that photosynthesis stuff....right?

Damn.....I'm getting sucked into this friggin' debate again. I'm outta here.

Your science is flawless!

If a leaf is not maintaining a plant's health, meaning it's out of nutrients, it sheds it. Why are you relying on your leaves to feed your plants again? I use the nutrients in my water for food and use my leaves for photosynthesis, call me crazy. Younger leaves produce photosynthesis more efficiently, this is science, I'll go link digging after some tea.
Edit:
I think the problem is you're trying to grow healthy plants and I'm trying to grow buds, just different approaches to growing.

Here's the first one I found, didn't feel like reading through others. http://bit.ly/1DK2jLO
It's inconclusive because there wasn't enough of a difference in age but they say their research of other studies indicates younger leaves are more photosynthetic.
Even if the rates were the same, which this study indicates isn't true, the study is comparing individual leaves, cutting off large fan leaves blocking other leaves allows more leaves and more surface area to be exposed granting more photosynthesis.

Hey RUI .
I recently bumped in cool article about "Defoliation" .... link is below ... I want to know RUI input on that so guys can share your thoughts.

DEFOLIATION ARTICLE LINK
That's not a cool article (and has been posted before) and this stupid practice/topic has been discussed a million times at RIU. For the most part, when it comes to horticulture and botany pot forums have no credibility.

Folks, before starting a thread please lurk and do a search first. That's what the search feature is for.

First, you do not produce photosynthesis, photosynthsis produces food for the plant. Second, you do not grow buds, you are growing a plant that produces buds THROUGH the process of photosynthesis which takes place INSIDE the leaves. This is taught in grade school, and is the actual SCIENCE of plant biology.
