Considering LEC 315 maybe conversion?? LEC height and light spread?

I am looking at the LEC 315. I have some 1000 HPS with magnetic ballasts with Hydrofarm reflectors . This kit allows a user to retrofit only HPS system with a LEC conversion with a new digital ballast, bulb and conversion adapter for about $243. The cheapest LEC 315 I have seen is around $380.

The pure LEC has bulb pointing down where conversions has it more conventional horizontal which may be a drawback.

I watched a video and they said the ceramic bulge in the middle of the bulb starts to plasma. Users should be careful with eyes and skin due to IR and UV.

A poster on another forum said he places the LECs really high and the spread is great but that may be the Papillion reflectors that look to butterfly. I wonder what the spread will be using a standard HPS Hydrofarm reflector.

Sweet light but expensive

The kits will work but they wont drive the lamp anywhere near the efficiency of a real square wave ballast.
I absolutely love my LEC but im slightly skeptical of running them off of anything but a ballast designed for the bulb.

I agree. I wouldn't try to mess with them. I am loving my 315s, the frost is absolutely fantastic. They put off a bit of heat, but considerably less than even a 600. Yes, it's true about the UV. Always wear eye protection in your room. My biggest regret in my current setup is that I don't have more room to move the light higher.

Cool. May I ask how high your ceiling is?
