I'm computer illiterate so this has been tuff but I know is an easy fix. Out of nowhere my card reader on my dell laptop quit registering my sd card when i put it in. I get no peep or any thing. I have went to the trouble shoot section and they found nothing. The card still works in my camera. Is there any way to check to see if its deabled or not.

first check in device manager see if there is anything wrong with the reader itself
when you put your card in do you have it set to auto open the folder of the drive
can you still see an empty drive in my computer for the reader ?

if the card still works in the camera i guess the card is ok
the reader may have some corrupt settings or need its driver to be re-installed
or it could of even lost its drive letter which is quite rare it will not show up in my computer but will show up in disk management

right click on my computer in the start menu select manage
for device manager and disk management

good luck

When Did the problem start? have you done anything different on Pc/Laptop? installed any *NEW* Software or Updates or other Devices been connected or Updated?

1 Example> iTunes is great for Screwing up Drive Letters and making Drives(Cd/Dvd Roms Etc) disappear!!

Can be a Number of reasons..Take it you on Windows Xp/Vista/7/8..can't see it being Me or 98se..Dell don't ship with Linux I don't think? could be wrong..

Peace

I don't know why you would think it's an easy fix. Shit happens with laptops. Things break, and at higher rates than desktops. Ports, like USB, card readers, etc. that are exposed to the elements are susceptible to failure. I lost a USB plug on a laptop for no particular reason. Well, there's a reason, I just don't know what it is...

Probably the simplest workaround would be to buy one of those USB card readers that accept multiple cards. Plug your card into the reader, plug the reader into a USB port and you should be good to go. Not as nice as having the original port working but operational anyway.
