I'm a complete noob and this is my very first grow and I have 2 plants, they are currently 8 days now since I've planted them in soil. Does my plants look ok? and does anyone know why one plant is significantly bigger than the other? what is happening and should I be concerned?
I made a grow box from a small cardboard moving box I got from Home Depot 16 IN. X 12 IN. X 12IN. and I'm currently using 1 CFL 100w 6500k bulb. How will I know when it's in vegetative stage?

It's fairly common to see seedlings slightly bigger or smaller than each other. It's nothing to worry about at this stage.

The veg stage technically starts as soon as they sprout. But i think most people class anything between 1 and 4 weeks as seedling stage. When the growth really starts to pick up is when people end the seedling stage and change lights or nute schedule etc to whatever they are running for veg.

Topdog has loaded you with some good info, ill just add a bit of input
Try not to water SEEDLINGS directly onto the leaves, as it is bad practice and the SEEDLING uptakes its needs through the root system (its ok with plain water but nutrients will burn the leaves, when you clone however the clone rely on you watering the leaves as they cant use their root system which they do not have right away) I only say that because I saw drops of water on the plants.
The size different is nothing to worry about as they are only TINY babies right now, they will both grow to be about the same size so you shouldn't worry too much just yet.
Unless one significantly outgrows the other, then you would have an underlying issue and its not the seeds its probably a deficiency or other problem (which you do not have just yet so don't panic).
Your 1x 100W 6500k will be ok, if you find yourself needing more light later on you can add some smaller light socket 40W globes from any local shop near you, but again before you add the lights make sure they are the right spectrum/size for your stage of growth.
Those will be ready to be transplanted when you can see the root system out the bottom of the current tubs you have them in, this is why many people start their seeds in see through plastic nowadays, just stops you from having to lift the plant up to see the roots.
Also be careful how much you water seedlings as they do not need a lot of water, MAKE CERTAIN the top layer or so of the soil is dry to the touch and not moist before watering again.
give enough water to WET the soil as the plants have no care for swimming :)
Sorry for making you read so much :P

Dude, you've got a steep learning curve ahead of you. I highly encourage you to use the Internet as a way to learn. Research, research, research. But, in a nut shell, keep them in the little pots for a couple of weeks, then the biggest pots you can fit in your space. All the light you can afford and fit, and the best soil you can afford, like fox farm Ocean forest, not Miracle Grow. The soil and water is a huge part of it. The water PH needs to be around 6 to below 7. Get the fox farm trio nutes and use the feeding schedule half strength. I use cheap paper PH strips off eBay. Works great. Research how to adjust ph. What I've wrote is basic advice, so keep researching and learning. Good luck, keep us posted.

I live in Canada and there's no Foxfarm brand soil here. I'm currently using Pro-Mix potting soil for my seedlings.

I grow in coco, so I know little about growing in soil typically.
I do know that potting mix on its own will be fine for your seedlings, however...
As the plants grow and you increase the pot size I would suggest you look into making your own potting mixes, IE using soil + adding perlite + peat moss or whatever that somebody with knowledge advises.
Because plants LOVE airflow throughout their roots, adding the perlite throughout the mix creates pockets for the air to sway through especially if you have a little down the bottom of the pot aswell.
Somebody correct me if im wrong about the soil thing, if not just do even a few google searches for the best soil mixes for growing MJ.
I was brand new to growing weed just like you are, infact I only started about 3 months ago...
The knowledge I have gained has come from smashing RollItUp forums for hours on end reading and learning as much as I possibly can, and also from actively seeking info through searching the web, I do not claim to be a professional in any way I mean how could I, I havnt even finished my first grow yet.
However I do believe I have enough knowledge currently to show others the ropes, and if I am wrong somebody will no doubt correct me.
basically what im trying to say is, if you actively seek the information you need to grow without hassles rather than being lazy and just post somebody tell me whats wrong blah blah then you too can gain a lot of experience and knowledge rather quickly.
Its the lazy people that end up saying growing weed is too hard, I always have problems etc etc.
Sorry again for the long post, just trying to be helpful I guess.

Actually seedlings stage 1-14 days. Veg actually from 14 days until u want. It can be in vegetation for a year if u want they veg until u flip to 12/12 or mature enough to start showing preflowers around 6 weeks old, but actually happens like in 18/6 light schedule, if u keep them in 24/0 or 20/4 they won't flower, at least in my experience and opinion. Good luck!

I hadn't mentioned anything about the length of the veg stage and I've seen people classing as far as the 3 rd and 4th weekas the seedling stage still. It is something that confused me at first lol.

What Dopeleader said is correct do plenty of research. I researched for 4 months before I attempted my first grow (which I'm at right now) and doing so has paid off handsomely, I'm on week 6 of flower and have had no problems at all. I'm growing in soil because most were in agreement that soil is more forgiving then other growing media plus I wasn't too crazy about having buckets of water, pumps, airstones and tubing, PHing, PPM, no pens, no bottled nutes. I wanted to grow as close to nature as possible in a controlled environment. I supplement by doing teas ( I just did a banana peel and Molasses tea it's high in potassium which I want in flower) all this knowledge comes from research. Sure you get bigger yeilds in hydro, but add an extra plant or 2 and some training and walla!

So I looked into Subcools Supersoil recipe bought all the ammendments and mixed them I was taken in by the "water only" method, got my beans online (single seed center) AK47, Polar Express, Marmalate and a Bag Seed. Germinated all 4 broke ground Sept. 13-17 and never had a problem.

BTW don't worry about wether one plant is bigger than the other my Marmalate was the first to crack and break ground, yet she's my smallest plant at 6 weeks and now she's a whopping 21" tall (I did top and LST) but dense and bushy as hell with 8 colas. It's all in the genetics of the strain, and Marmalate is a shorty.

Ok cool. So should I also change to a bigger pot now or just wait for it to get a bit bigger?
You want the roots to be able to hold the soil during the transplant, which means the roots should occupy the space they are in. It is hell when the root ball crumbles in your hand from loose soil!!! It will break the roots

In your experience? What is that worth lol???
I didn't say anything wrong, the seedling stage is from sprout to 14 days no matter what anyone says, after 14 days is considered vegetation stage until the plant start showing preflowers, if u can take advice or constructive criticism then f.u, u don't have to be sending me private messages threatening me!! f.u u m.f. and by the way if u wanna beat ma head bend over pull ma zipper down. F.u. m.f
Run to a public place and cry!!! Maybe you can find a broad woman to protect you!
This mf right here threaten me in private message and now try to act like nothing? U peace of sh.. Fu. Garbage azz mf suck on this B==========D~~~
Really?? The OP is a newbie and needs info, sure it is basic info and can be found by doing research instead of asking questions in an open forum...BUT he or she does not need their thread jacked by a couple of whiny trollies. Go fight in another forum guys, or better yet don't fight at all...CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG?? Smoke one on me and CHILLLL!!!bongsmilie:peace:

So yesterday I noticed that roots are growing out the bottom of its small starter container and decided I would transplant to a bigger container today. How does it look? I'm a little concerned about the bigger one. It looks like its leaves are looking a little down. Should I be worried?

Also, I'm currently using 1 100W 6500k 1450 lumens CFL bulb and thing about upgrading to 2 100W 6500k 3000 lumens total. Too much too soon?

I consider veg to properly start when you see the nodes start to stagger as most plants won`t flower no matter what you do before they start to stagger

Most clones stagger from when they have rooted, where as seeds seem to take 3 to 7 nodes to start to do it
