Coco Coir - Buffering and pH question (safe tolerance)

Hi guys and girls...

I am starting off in some Coco Coir for my little ones after a horrendous time with bad quality soil which was a BIG mistake. Burned a baby to death and stunted it.

Anyway... I've opted for some Coco Coir block saturated in RO water at a pH of 6.4 to get it all fluffed up and hydrated again. Added about a 50% perlite mix to the Coco Coir... looking and feeling very bouncy and aerated...

For buffering my Coco Coir the nutrients are sitting at about the 6.4 pH range (according to my pH pen)... Do you think thats a safe range in the Coco coir?

I've mixed 4ml of Sensi CalMag Extra and 4ml Piranha juice to 2 litres of RO water so far.

Any recommendations if this pH is safe etc.

Thanks all ^_^

Id lower that to around 5.8/6.0

+ or - a little bit on those numbers is fine.
Thanks dude, yea... that is what i was thinking also, the RO water on its own comes out around 6.6 pH, applying the nutrients is bringing it down to that 6.4 pH... Citric acid or Sulphuric acid is better for bringing down the pH? Unfortunately no time to get my hands on pH down till next week.

PS. I've tried using Rice Vinegar and that seems to have done the trick. Little tiny trace amounts, not enough to even smell it in the buffer - got the pH to 6.0 on the button.

Hurry up and get some PH Down. lol
Rice vinegar is pretty organic as far as acid goes :P but yes, i will do that.... im planning to buffer a small stock of the coco coir, enough for the first stage pot...

Last question is should the feeding regime continue to include a daily dose of Calmag or just every other feed of RO water as seedling will be put into the Coco coir with the buffer...

I didnt feed anything for about a week to a week and a half....after that you can start to add a little calmag. There are enough nutes in the cotyledons to get you started.

Still think i should buffer the coco coir with those solutions first though? then add the seed in? then for feeding regime just RO water for the 1st week.
